Osama bin Laden, the long-time figurehead of the al Qaeda terrorist network, has been buried at sea after being killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.
U.S. officials told CBS News that bin Laden's body would be handled in accordance with Muslim traditions, which include strict rules on burial taking place within 24 hours after death.

I thought he was killed almost a week ago and his death wasn’t announced until his DNA was verified. Where’s the photo of his cadaver?
And if you believe that I have a nice bridge to sell ya!
Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. All this just seems too perfect.
Ya mean like this?
We got to see Hussein hang.
Where’s Osama Bin Waldo?
They did but <0 changed their minds.
Yep, an English officer did just that once and used pig fat to lube their bullets. Locals did not seem to like that much.
Where he is now he won't need a wrap.
For that matter, when has Beloved Leader EVER given a presentation with only ONE teleprompter?
I couldn't believe it when I saw him facing forward, and NOT constantly bobbleheading to the left and right teleprompters, in his pathetic effort to appear natural.
And sure enough, after a while, you could see his head trying to wander to one side or the other, and then him catching it and snapping it back to the single prompter in the center (evoke visions of the hand with a mind of its own in Dr. Strangelove). And then, he started doing RAPID left-right-left-right-left-right head twitches -- very little movement but quite rapid.
(I'm waiting for some wag to take one of his dronefests (any of them would suffice) and then speed up the tempo a bit, and strip out the audio track, and replace it with a musical background -- The Crazy Syncopated Clock -- with Beloved Leader's head bobbing left and right in sync with the music, a visual clock pendulum tracking the tick-tock tick-tock in the music.)
Where’s the death certificate?
Osama sleeps with the fishes?
Or so I fervently hope
The deceased is then taken for burial (al-Dafin). The exact manner, customs and style of the grave, the burial and so forth may vary by regional custom.
The grave should be aligned perpendicular to the Qibla (i.e. Mecca). The body is placed in the grave without a casket, laying on its right side, and facing the Qibla. Grave markers should be raised only up to a maximum of 30 centimetres (12 in) above the ground. Thus Grave markers are simple, because outwardly lavish displays are discouraged in Islam. Many times graves may even be unmarked, or marked only with a simple wreath. However, it is becoming more common for family members to erect grave monuments.
In Middle Eastern cultures women are generally discouraged from participating in the funeral procession. The reason for this is that in pre-Islamic Arabia it was customary in Arabia for grieving women to wail loudly. Wealthy families often even hired 'wailers' to attend the funerals of their deceased relative. Wailing at funerals is not permitted in Islam.
The body is laid such that it is facing the direction of the Qibla.
Three fist-sized spheres of hand-packed soil (prepared beforehand by the gravediggers) are used as props, one under the head, one under the chin and one under the shoulder. The lowering of the corpse, and positioning of the soil-balls is done by the next of kin. In the case of a departed husband, the male brother or brother-in-law usually performs this task. In the case of a departed wife, the husband undertakes this (if physically able). If the husband is elderly, then the eldest male son (or son-in-law) is responsible for lowering, alignment and propping the departed.
The orthodoxy expects those present to symbolically pour three handfuls of soil into the grave while reciting a Quranic verse in Arabic meaning "We created you from it, and return you into it, and from it We will raise you a second time". More prayers are then said, asking for forgiveness of the deceased, and reminding the dead of their profession of faith.
Tonight, Japanese cable TV showed a picture of the head, but partially obscured I guess to hide the ugly parts. It did look like his mouth. So I guess the photos are out there.
But burying him (I’m thinking more like they probably tossed him overboard) was most definitely the most appropriate thing to do, otherwise the fanatics would probably erect a shrine in his memorial, no body, no shrine.
The funniest part is that BO saved this announcement to pre-empt Trump’s show!
Where’s the C.O.L.D.? Certificate of Live Death
Not unprecedented. After the Nazi hierarchy were hanged, their bodies were cremated and the ashes handed to a couple of military police with instructions to drive around until they were thoroughly lost, then dump the ashes in a roadside ditch. They did.
This guy was in the business of destroying AMERICA and we respect his religious ‘rights’ after we kill him???
This sounds as screwy as that phoney birth certificate!
The moslems did not honor Christian tradition when they flew jets into the WTC, why should we honor anyting of theirs?
First I think they stuffed Obama’s college and school record up Osama’s ass before they dropped into the drink. Kill two birds with one stone, I always say.
You overlook the obvious.
The body was disposed at an undisclosed location at sea because there could be no place on land that would not become a shrine.
The deed was done quickly to avoid heaping irrelevant reasons for reprisal on top of the obvious. There should be no religious reasons for reprisal.
The really good description of the action is “He’s dead Jim” to which there is no good retort.
