Bin Laden killed: How it happened (Time to bomb Pakistan for harboring Al-Qaeda)
BBC ^ | 5/2/2011 | BBC

Posted on 05/02/2011 3:36:22 AM PDT by tobyhill

Details are emerging of how al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was found and killed at a fortified compound on the outskirts of Abbottabad in north-west Pakistan.

The compound is just "a stone's throw" and less than 200 yards from the Pakistan Military Academy, an elite military training centre, which is Pakistan's equivalent to Britain's Sandhurst, one local journalist from Abbottabad told the BBC.

Other reports have put the distance at 800 yards.

But the compound lies well within Abbottabad's military cantonment - it is likely the area would have had a constant and significant military presence and checkpoints.

The operation began at about 2230 (1730 GMT) and lasted about 45 minutes, military sources told BBC Urdu. Two or three helicopters were seen flying low over the area. Witnesses say it caused panic among local residents.

Barbed wire and cameras

The target of the operation was the compound, which had at its centre a large three-storey building.

Pakistan has a lot of explaining to do (and it wont help them). A link to the map below:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Abbottabad+pakistan+military+academy&aq=&sll=34.17084,73.233728&sspn=0.06377,0.072956&doflg=ptk&ie=UTF8&hq=pakistan+military+academy&hnear=Abbott%C4%81bad,+Abbottabad,+Khyber+Pakhtunkhwa,+Pakistan&t=h&ll=34.185039,73.235807&spn=0.017715,0.039268&z=15&iwloc=B

The word “Outrageous” doesn’t begin to cover it.

The Pakistani Military and ISI knew exactly where he was for 10 years now so while this is good news that he’s dead, Pakistan must pay a price.

Oddly enough, we’ve had reports of Pakistan harboring bin Laden for years. Years. The timing of his capture and death couldn’t be better for Zero if you’d scripted it in Hollywood. With his polls numbers bottoming out and his domestic/economic policies widely hated...’how’s hope and change working out for you?’...Zero needed something, and this breathes life in his reelection campaign. But Bin Laden’s followers will rally and commit acts of mass murder, and gas prices won’t fall until we drill for our own oil. Call me cynical, but I think Zero wouldn’t have done anything had his poll numbers looked better. That said, Bravo and well done, Navy seals and everyone who took part in this!

One more thing...Zero actually used the words: One Nation Under God...and God Bless the United States of America. He even hinted that we’re an exceptional nation. Nah, I must have been dreaming.

I'm not worried about Obama’s poll numbers because while people maybe celebrating now the questions will start arising.

Why buried at sea before we had a chance to cut his body up?

Why is Obama so sensitive to Osama’s religion?

Who harbored him?

etc,,,

Bin Ladn had very bad kidneys, requiring dialysis. From the satellite photos, one can see that this town is loaded with military hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities of all sorts.

Makes perfect sense as a hide-out in plain view. Also makes sernse that every bloody Paki from corporal on up knew where the guy was all along.

Disband the TSA.

OH, mabye not.

If Obaama is so desperate for re-election that he threw Al-Qaeda under the bus, they're going to come back for vengeance in a big way. Muslim sleeper cells, anyone?

(Which *might* lead to chaos and a call for suspension of US elections, btw.)

NO cheers, unfortunately.

A quick burial at sea prevents them from setting up a martyr’s site, plus it was private. Muslims can’t prove we put bacon to good use, but I sure hope we did. As for Zero, that speech was typical self aggrandizement. I, I, I...you’d have thought he carried out the raid all by himself.

Tom Clancy's last book (Dead or Alive) had Bin Laden living in Las Vegas and it made perfect sense. I'm not surprised at all that he was right out in the open. Sadly, the war on terror will never over. One man dead doesn’t even make a dent.

“Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader. He was a mass murderer of Muslims,” Obama said.

Obama more concerned about his fellow Muslims that Bin Laden killed than all our fellow Americans that were killed. And Obama made sure Bin Laden received a proper Muslim burial. Obama is a POS.

Obama’s speech was awful. I never in my life heard anyone use so many words to say so little in my life. And his use of the first person and his credit taking, scene stealing and general self centered behavour was appalling. He made only what seemed to me the most perfunctory and minimal expressions of gratitude and appreciation of those who actually made it happen.

The Pakistani Military and ISI knew exactly where he was for 10 years now so while this is good news that he’s dead, Pakistan must pay a price.

Well that's the little rule I always suggest (but I'm "crazy"). It's very simple: any source of attack which is knowingly harbored wins the host country a 60-day annihiliation, largely from the air, and then promptly sent a bill for the effort, which if unpaid, is simply extracted in treasure. No rebuilding.

If POTUS and Congress followed that policy, pakistan would cease to be a problem by the fall and the message would be heard very well by the world. It might take a couple more countries, but within a few years, ALL nations would miraculously be working diligently on our side to rid the world of evil. Instead, the world continues to play cowboys and indians, with politicians talking out of both sides of their mouth, using events such as this for political gain within their own country. Also - this is a yet another event that should prompt the U.S. to shut down immigration, but it won't.

The location of this cell/hq/compound is a blatant, outright slap in our face by the government of pakistan. Every day that goes by that we don't declare war and annihilate them sends a signal that we are just playing a decades or centuries-long game, sad to say. We allow them to lie to us and we continue to buy even that level of support.

The information about where this scumbag was had been developed over a number of years. That said this is actually the first thing I can think of that Obama has done right.

Give Obama all the credit, he deserves it.

I believe Bin laden died of “natural causes” that is a serve over dose of lead in his brain!

Some people think Ayman Zawahiri is the brains of al Qaeda anyway. He should have been at least as high a priority.

Disgusting how 0bama tries to make it look as if he personally planned the operation.

WRONG, OBAMA! Osama was VERY good Muslim. He took the Koran seriously which is why he loved murdering Americans in cold blood. Now, thanks to the SEALs, he is rotting & roasting in hell.

So, my question is when are we gonna go after that Kim Il Jong & Abdulminiwhatever to make the world an even safer place? Mess with the best & you die like the rest. What comes around, Osama baby, goes around. Have a nice eternity w/o ac!

This is a wonderful accomplishment for the guys who did the actual capturing of Bin Laden. They are heroes. The operation reminds me of the Israeli rescue at En Geddie (sp.?).

But it’s mainly a symbolic victory. We haven’t put an end to terrorism. Another crazy will step in and take Bin Laden’s place.

I keep seeing people saying Navy Seals. Is that printed somewhere in news reports? I've only seen it say American Special Forces. Are people assuming SEALS because he was buried at sea? I think we'll never know what branch of special forces did the deed. Quite possibly it was a combination of branches that participated in the op.

You get it. OBL is old news. While this is hailed as some major triumph in the police action against terrorism, it really is no such thing. The front has moved on to Iran, it's nuclear ambitions, and its missiles...to Egypt, to Turkey, to the flotilla.

He already said he gave the order.

I was listening for “I”

It later occurred to me that he had to say that he as president gave the order personally and the implication that no prisoners were taken was also at his order.

Also, he used the word Terrorist several times.

Sadly, the war on terror will never over. One man dead doesn’t even make a dent.

True - the fight has been going on for fourteen-hundred years, rising and falling in intensity like the tide. One man's death isn't going to stop it.

Ok call me suspicious but, isn’t it weird that ol’ Bin was killed last week? Ok, yea, I have my tin foil hat on. How long did they know he was there? And who gave the go ahead to go in and get him? Was it really just last week, or did this happen a while ago and Obama is using it to divert attention away from something else? Everything coming out of Obama’s mouth last night sounded sincere but everything he does is contrary to what he was saying. He can’t even call these people terrorists. Just sayin.

Pakistan is touchy...They are a nuclear power.

When we first made them THE MOST STRATEGIC ALLY in the war on terror, Pakistan had no, nada, none intelligence system. We set them up...ran it...and apparently still do.

Frankly, I don't see any gain in Usama's death. He was no longer the leader of alqueda.
