Skip to comments. Will OBL dirt nap give a boost to Obama poll numbers?....Coincidence?
Posted on 05/02/2011 8:00:30 AM PDT by AngelesCrestHighway
While I watched an arrogant Obama report that bin Ladin had been killed, I couldn't help think how timely this was for the boy socialist. The media and Obama said the awesome job of our special forces had to wait for exactly the right momment to go. When all the pieces where in place. Obama knows that America is throwing up his socialist agenda. Was this the right moment for Obama also? We shall see if this incident pulls his bacon out of the fire. Maybe temporarily, but this changes nothing.
Thank you GW Bush!!
He’s not taking a dirt nap.He went swimming, real deep.
I’m sure that Chris Mathews and all good liberal “journalists” are getting tingles in lots of unnamed places as they praise Obama for the success of the secret mission to get Bin Laden.
I expect to hear also, that Bush failed to get Bin Laden, and that only the strong determined leadership of Obama allowed us to finish him off.
We’ll see how long the MSM can make this story last.
Maybe this will be Obama’s “Oklahoma City moment”. Tucson was supposed to be that moment, but it didn’t work out as planned by the liberals. So now they will try with this event.
Having said all that, of course we’re all happy that Bin Laden is learning his eternal fate right about now. And that fate is not being with 72 virgins.
I suspect Obama’s popularity will see an uptick. More disturbing is the fact that he used “fear of reprisals” to update our security status to “Red Alert”. This is a brilliant move politically; Obama gets credit for this success *and* another excuse to take our freedoms away. We nabbed the guy; now can we have our civil liberties back?
There will be a ‘spike’ no doubt. But, killing Obama was an act done 10 years too late.
Americans will soon come to grips that killing the SOB has not caused the price of gas to come down, their medical insurance future to improve, their financial future to be more secure, or their job opportunities to improve.
The euphoria will only last a week (if that long), and then the sad reality of the boob still in control of the WH will reappear to everyone once again.
I’m waiting for politico to post an article with the heading “Obama boast he captured Osama”
He was already leading...
I’ve upped my wager that the Black Messiah will hold the White House in the next election to $250. I’ve got the money. No one is accepting my bet.
This will even shut up Donald Trump. For a short while.
Release of a long form BC, that has initial rave reviews, but then as more and more evidence piles up of its being a fraud...
Changing the news cycle headline to Osama "death", with all the evidence thrown out to sea at 3 AM in the dark of night. This also has initial rave reviews...
So, what's going down next?
He may get a temporary bump, but it won’t last long.
Most Americans know that this changes nothing in the Middle East or Israel ,it doesn’t help the economy, and it won’t stop the apology tours and the campaigning from our Plane.
It damned sure won’t make gas sell any cheaper or encourage Obama to encourage drilling in our country. It won’t stop the bleeding in the job market, and it wont lower the price of food.
Our boy is standing in the deep doo-doo and crapping to make it deeper.
Still: The Unions, and feminists and baby killers and homosexuals, and Blacks, and entitlement seekers and others being obamaites hurt by his incompetence worship the ground their Messiah walks on.
In a word..nope. I dont think this will benefit Obama either way.
I just find it funny how these nut cases accused President Bush of being behind the 911 attacks, and now they are praising Obama for getting Bin Laden.
Strange world we live in.
It got the Birth Certificate story buried.
Timing is everything.
I agree. You can bet it’s all he and the media will have left next November. This one even does not balance out with the thousand disasters he is handing us! The media will play it to the max.
I think the numbers will go up for a short time...but it really is all about the economy (as a post-Gulf War Bush 41 found out). I also think killing Osama will make the story last for a shorter time...as opposed to capturing him and constantly parading him around.
He will get a huge bump in the coming days - possibly a 20 point jump, into the high 60s/low 70s. It’s just the way it goes.
But then it will be back to reality with high gas prices, debt, unemployment...
The liberals will milk this for all it’s worth.
But a spike in the polls for Obama? Questionable. While we’re all happy that Bin Laden is learning his eternal fate right now, those opposed to Obama’s various bad policies won’t suddenly now approve of Obama just because of this one great event.
The reported events of how this went down, begs the following question:
- How did OBL get to live in a ‘Mansion’ in a ‘military residential area’ without the Pakis aware of this?
- How did U.S. helicopters get to stage a “secret” raid lasting over 40 minutes without any ‘response’ from Paki military?
Obama will get a bump in the polls, but it will not help him get re-elected. They bump will be long gone by then.
Interestingly, President Bush deserves a lot of credit here. The intelligence that led to Osama’s death came from Gitmo detainees. They identified the trusted Osama courier that led intelligence sources to the compound. President Bush deserves more credit than that pos Obama.
This is not a game changer for Obama in the long run.
I think this is at best a no-change event for Obama. Supporters will think Obama didnt need to kill him because he was not a true threat, and conservatives still wont trust Obama as the CIC.
When the dust clears, the liberals will still think its unfair that we have too much military power and that we invaded Pakistan without cause. The conservatives will still think Obama is a impotent military leader who just happened to be present when our military did the job.
It probably will give him a temporary bump. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it gave him a temporary positive index on Rasmussen. I don’t see this being the deciding factor for him 18 months from now. A dead bin laden won’t fill your gas tank, get you a job or save us from bankruptcy.
A temporary boost yes. But the next election is going to rest heavily on domestic policy and Obama is a disaster on domestic policy.
Yup but we’ve got a long way to go until 2012. He just wanted Trump off the front page is all.
What do you think the Lamestream Media would be saying/writing if three years ago President Bush made a late night announcement on a Sunday that “We killed Bin Laden - We cut his brain out and then dumped him in the ocean, per Islamic law.” No photos with a newspaper lying next to the body that shows the date —but I am sure you don’t need that proof - Bush’s word would be enough - Right.....
Obama will get a boost long enough for the anti war crowd who was cheering last night to figure out how little it really means in the war on terror.
I’m just glad the families of victims will get their closure.
“It got the Birth Certificate story buried.”....
Makes you wonder...Obama’s impeccable timing!
Just like “Mission Accomplished”...it will bump it but not for long.
I;ve always said, whomever makes the most noise or “swift boats’ the other opponent in the final 3 months will be the victor. The October surprise is and has always been the key.
If the unemployment rate is above 10% and gas is $7, OBL being dead will not matter even if the MSM harps like barking dogs.
The election is far way so be happy that OBL is gone, you almost seem sad that he is being eaten by sharks.
Obama WILL get a big approval poll increase, but will it be enough to get the public to ignore the financial disaster taking place all around them and coast him back into the White House? I think not.
Will he gain somewhat in the polls, probably for a short time, but not for long. Gas and food prices will override OBL.
“But, killing Obama was an act done 10 years too late.”
Paging Dr. Freud, Dr. Sigmond Freud white courtesy phone please.
More like Waco. Scrape it clean and cover it up. No body? No way
Even though the Special Forces deserve all the credit, 0bama is going to benefit hugely from this, like it or not. This is an undeniably huge development. Look for at least a 10-point bump in Obama’s approval numbers, at least for the short term.
trillions of dollars in debt,
food prices skyrocket.
It’s the economy stupid, always has been always will be.
I thought so too until I heard the chants of USA! USA! And there was flag waiving and singing of Gob Bless America. Obama is the anti-American president who won’t even respect the Pledge of Allegiance. Anyhthing that boosts patriotism hurts Obama. Now he can apologize for Osama.
FWIW-I heard “special forces” mentioned, too, but then heard it was Seal Team 6, not that it matters.
Ever see the movie “Wag the Dog”?
But the liberal view, reflected in the MSM, will be that Obama carried out the mission and took out Bin Laden.
A presidential p*ssing contest will be part of the debate. The liberals will say, Bush failed to get Bin Laden, due to Bush’s lack of leadership, intelligence, etc. But their man, Obama, showing such strong leadership, carried out the mission and finished Bin Laden off.
So in comparing presidents, the liberals will say that Bush failed, Obama succeeded. They will over simplify all of it and boil it down to that.
I’m sure he knew where OBL was for some time.....”Let me play this card when I really need it.”
Last week, after months of obdurate refusal to release the original long-form birth document, the Administration finally publishes something different from the other questionable "birth certificates" and this one has major flaws. They point to it and say, "See. This answers all your questions." Less than a week later, on a Sunday night so it will dominate the Monday morning news cycle, they finally run an op at a compound that had been pretty solidly identified by the last administration, use forty Seals in four choppers to do it, destroy one chopper in the effort, and reportedly kill two bin Laden family members (one supposedly OBL) and two couriers, and then dump the body in the sea "to honor Muslim death sensitivities." The proles in the US may buy it, but the Arab Street isn't. The MSM is trying to make our demonstrations look like the Arab Street demonstrations after 9-11. I'm sure Al Jazeera is making the point, in their coverage of infidel celebrations.
We are left with several posibilities:
Obama bin Lyin' is trying to boost his ratings by taking credit for wrapping up a loose end that it looks like could have been done before now, one that the Bush administration had well underway when Obama came aboard, and doing it in such a way that, with his track record, seems dubious, ingenuous and unclear.
It's as though he designs these revelations to look politically expedient and bogus.
Peculiar timing. If Obama ordered the go ahead on Friday why did they wait until Monday morning just before the 9th Circuit is about to take up his NBC case. Also the release of Corsi’s new book. HMMM......
I'd expect to see a boost in Obama's Rasmussen and Gallup daily tracking numbers -- but nothing permanent.
The price of oil is up right now, 12 hours after the announcement. If employment improves significantly while the price of gasoline goes down, Zero's baseline numbers should improve. But I think that's like him managing 2 holes-in-one in a row. It's possible, but it's unlikely.
When all the info originated under BUSH, Zero doesn’t deserve any credit. He was forced to give an order we all know he didn’t want to give.

U.S. warns of anti-American violence after bin Ladens death
By Matthew Lee
Last Modified: May 2, 2011 02:31AM
WASHINGTON The State Department early Monday put U.S. embassies on alert and warned of the heightened possibility for anti-American violence after the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden by American forces in Pakistan.
The department issued a worldwide travel alert shortly after President Barack Obama late Sunday announced bin Ladens death in a U.S. military operation. The department warned of an enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counterterrorism activity in Pakistan.
It continued: Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations.
The alert said U.S. embassy operations would continue to the extent possible under the constraints of any evolving security situation. It noted that embassies and consulates may temporarily close or suspend public services, depending on conditions. AP
All night long, I’ve seen threads and replies on how OBL’s death will GUARANTEE Obama’s re-election.
What a pantload.
May I remind FReepers that Bush I enjoyed a 90% approval rating in Feb. 1991? After he won the Gulf War.
And we all know what happened in November of ‘92.
Get ready for protests from the “American Muslim Community” accompanied by demands for Eric Holder to investigate the Seal Team tactics.
His poll numbers will get a temporary boost. They will probably rise significantly for a month or so.
The bottom line is if we have 9% plus unemployment, gas at $4 a gallon, food prices going through the roof in November 2012 it won’t mean jack that Bin Laden was killed on May 1, 2011. He will lose the election.
Everything the leftist does is measured for political impact. Everything.
