Sen. Graham questions bin Laden's burial By Jordan Fabian - 05/02/11 11:09 AM ET

A leading Republican senator on Monday question the U.S. government's decision to dispose of Osama bin Laden's body within 24 hours.

Bin Laden, the former al Qaeda leader killed by U.S. forces on Sunday, was buried within 24 hours of his death in accordance with Islamic law. Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), a top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, is skeptical of the decision.

"To me, that didn't make a lot of sense," Graham said during an interview with conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.

U.S. forces were able to capture bin Laden's body after killing him at a compound outside Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad, but he was buried at sea soon afterward, reportedly to not leave a shrine to him.

The Obama administration is debating whether or not to release photos of bin Laden's body after some have expressed concern that the U.S. needs to do so to prove his death.

But others in the administration have been hesitant due to the graphic nature of the photo.

Michael Scheurer, a former CIA official, said Monday morning that the U.S. will likely release the photos to erase any doubt that he is dead.

I’m surprised to hear this coming from Graham.

This whole thing smells fishy.

I don’t care what makes sense to Flimsey Graham. His comments are irrelevant to any issue.

If they don’t release these photos, and preferably some video, to prove this happened as described, there is going to be a backlash from many on the left and right, as well as throughout the world. There needs to be undeniable proof, or this becomes the biggest conspiracy since JFK.

A lot of things don’t make sense to Senator Graham. I am not going to starting counting them, because I have better things to do today.

It makes it all the more powerful that a RINO is saying this. The whole story is bizarre. One would think that someone in the military or the intelligence community would tell the Obama minions how important this is. They had/have ONE chance to get the truth out there, and it appears they are botching it, with different stories, and possible lies.

Photo of dead Ben Laden seems to be as difficult to get as a photo of a Hawaiian official holding the “real” certifiable presidential birth certificate.....hmmmm?

Wouldn’t purpose have been better served by killing him and quietly slipping away into the night, leaving Pakistan to explain the corpse? To think that American special forces could slip into a military compound, pop him off, and then slip away saying nothing would scare the living hell out of everyone?

If Bin Laden wasn’t dead, don’t you think he would just release another video telling the world he wasn’t? Anyone who sees a conspiracy in this is nuts.

Graham is not the only one asking this question.

It makes me sick that our dear leader finds it necessary to respect any Islamic “customs.” I’d like to know who made this decision.

I’m a fan of the “no shrine” burial at sea. It’s a good idea. I think the photos will either be released officially or leaked unofficially.

Well. THIS presents a quandary, does it not?

Who to disbelieve more between these two lighter than air gasbags? Obama or Graham? I’ll take P. T. Barnum for $5.

“in accordance with Islamic law”

Creeping Sharia?

Come on. WE are not an Islamic nation. Why are we obeying Islamic law?

They still don’t have the story about when the DNA test results were back right....lots of conflicting info.

I have seen before Obama announced ..I have seen just got them in.....and I have seen still not in.

Graham is not the brightest bulb. The best thing we did is kill OBL rather than capture him. The second best thing was to dispose of the body at sea within 24 hours per Islamic tradition. No trial, no shrine—just ignominious death for a human cockroach.

They should have stuffed him with pig fat and parts, and released pictures of it, before sending him to the sea.

Obama makes the announcement and his credibility comes to question. The announcement should have been made by the military or joint chiefs.

Now it's a mess.

“But others in the administration have been hesitant due to the graphic nature of the photo. “

What a fricking joke! This man was responsible for the death of 3000 Americans on 9/11, some of them JUMPING from windows, families only getting fingers of a piece of bone to bury, this list goes on and on.

Do they really think people can’t handle looking at a picture of Osama bin Laden with two bullet holes in his head? This is the country that produces every form of graphic and bloody movie that can be imagined and we can’t SEE a photo of a dead terrorist?
