Washington Post Writer 'Cringes' at Sight of 'Vulgar' Americans Celebrating Bin Laden's Death

For the Washington Post's Petula Dvorak the sight of American college kids celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden outside of the White House gates, on Sunday night, was "almost vulgar." In a May 2 story Dvorak described the scenes of joy as "one part Mardi Gras and two parts Bon Jovi concert" but then went on to say "It felt a little crazy, a bit much. Almost vulgar" and went on to admit "my first reaction was a cringe."

Gotta admit some of the celebrating bothered me in that it looked more like the kids were trying to get their few seconds of fame in front of the cameras. Think about it. Would college kids actually celebrate bin Ladens death? I seriously doubt it. They`re probably in mourning of his passing.

Flashmob kids encourged to get out in the street for the Obama show.

Give them a few weeks and they’ll be figuring out that the war isn’t over.

Democrats...This is in support of Obama....Only thing that makes sense.

And the new mosque will be just around the corner and with Obama's Muslim blessing.

That was my impression as well as I watched youngsters in front of the White House mugging for the camera.

I wonder, did he cringe when muslims celebrated the fall of the twin towers?

Most of them were 20 yr. olds who have known him as our enemy for half their lives. Understandable.

I’m impressed how many actually know the words to “God Bless America”.

Was Petula just as upset at seeing our soldiers hanging from bridges, being dragged behind cars, beheaded, not counting airplanes flying into the Trade Center. Were Muslims insisting our soldiers were to be buried with reverence with in 24 hours?

Something did not feel right about the flash mob in front of the White House. They were mostly white college kids. I know a lot of those types and the ones I know are just not plugged in to the Bin Laden thing. Bring up his name and most will look at you puzzled.

Something smells and it is not Bin Laden’s corpse which word has it was dumped in the ocean? The ocean? Huh?

Nothing is cut and dried about Obama. Nothing. This is all so strange. I hope the military clears the air and gives up facts, photos, etc.

I was proud to see young Americans celebrating the death of one of our greatest enemies. I would have liked to have seen millions, of all ages, celebrating and showing the Jihadists what we think of their “leader”.

It bothered my daughter and I as well. I felt very solemn and some vindication as if a bit of justice was meted out but not jubilant. I wondered if I/we were alone in this feeling. It seemed odd almost like I was viewing something from the middle east, except the burning effigy were missing.

“Would college kids actually celebrate bin Ladens death? I seriously doubt it. They`re probably in mourning of his passing. “

I would say that is a very inaccurate generalization. We should all be celebrating the displays of patriotism by everyone last night and today.

If anything is “vulgar,” it will be seeing images of those “celebrations” in campaign videos.

I am in my 60’s and have known Obama as our enemy since the summer of ‘08!

Was there something fishy about the 1000s who showed up at Ground Zero or Times Square. Or the 40,000 shouting USA at Citizens Bank Park in Philly?

I agree. I think jubilance is precisely and the most appropriate way to celebrate — yes, celebrate — the death of this evil man.

I think you were alone, along with Petula. The jubilation did not bother me, or anybody I know, one iota. We are all celebrating at work this morning!

“Something did not feel right about the flash mob in front of the White House.”

Yup. Like a rent-a-mob to support obama. The mugging they were doing for the cameras was way overboard. It was like they were saying,,,”hey, look at me! Look at me!”

I just can't understand this.

I've searched the ‘blob-o-sphere’ for past writings from Ms. Dvorak denouncing every country in the Middle-East as ‘vulgar’ for hosting hundreds of thousands of ululating savages as they celebrated 3000+ dead in this country in the days following September 11, 2001, but have not been able to find anything.

She CAN'T be a hypocrite, can she?
