DEVELOPING: Usama bin Laden was given a religious funeral prior to his burial at sea, senior military officials told Fox News.

Religious rites were conducted on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier at about 1:10 a.m. Monday in the Persian Gulf.

In accordance with Islamic practice, bin Laden was washed and wrapped in a white sheet before buried at sea at 2 p.m. local time, senior U.S. military and intelligence officials said.

Why bring the body back when all you need is a tissue sample. DNA doesn't require a body, it literally only requires a cell.

Why the hurry to get rid of the body? The military/administration/someone had to know there would be doubt without photos or something.

And, if you bring the body back, the transpo time alone exceeds the Islamic burial standard. Why unnecessarily poke our enemy in the eye, creating a point of sympathy for bin Laden adherents in that part of the world.

Who cares about Bin Laden adherents? People so stupid to be appeased that we gave him proper religious burial (after friggin blowing his face off?!) are just that, too stupid to be appeased no matter what we do.

The burial at sea makes COMPLETE sense. No, it's not entirely in the Muslim tradition, but it does foreclose the possibility of a large shrine being built to house the "martyr". The burial at sea is something of a stroke of genius.

Not that quickly. If there was a chance they could have taken the body, cleaned it up for a "presentable" photo like the two Hussein sons.....that's what we should do. Burial at sea could happen any time. Now the administration is debating whether they'll release the photo they have......it WILL be gruesome. If they were worried about creating a point of sympathy, any photo of osama's face gone will do far more than not adhering to the 24 hour burial.

IMO, this was too hurried in disposing of the body at sea, and ESPECIALLY adhering to there islamic burial custom. THAT is particulary foolish (IMO, of course).

This was probably John Brennan's "bright" idea.
