U.S. attorney general: bin Laden operation lawful 11:49am EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Attorney General Eric Holder defended as lawful on Tuesday the U.S. operation to go into Pakistan that resulted in the death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the taking of his body.

The acts taken were "lawful, legitimate and appropriate in every way. The people who were responsible for that action, both in the decision making and the effecting of that decision............

I don’t get it. Holder insists that terrorists/enemy combatants, or whatever the politically correct term for these guys is, are entitled to full constitutional rights, including trial in a civilian court. Why is Holder not outraged that we killed rather than capturing and taking Bin Laden alive????

Well if AG Holder makes a statement, that's good enough for me. /sarc

This isn't the first time he has addressed whether something is lawful or constitutional. No division of powers in the branches anymore.

Holder has just blown the cover of Seal Team 6!

Since he said that ‘The acts taken were “lawful, legitimate and appropriate in every way...” ‘, obviously these were done by members of the New Black Panther Party!

How ridiculous for Holder to even make a statement. Our national sovereignty is our right, specifically when our sovereignty is challenged.

That’s why nations have m i l i t a r i e s.

It’s not a federal job program.

I have seen a lot of complaints from soldiers about the New Rules of Engagment and how it has caused many deaths.

So did the CIA follow those rules of engagment when giving the order?

OBL, comments when asked if he wanted to go for the catagory of small arms fire to the head, or the catagory of illegal American torture techniques, during the special Seal episode of Jeapardy.

Holder is such a joke. But that's racist. Hey, if they shot Obama because of his muslem beliefs, isn't that a hate crime?

It will be interesting to see how bin Laden’s death will play out in the mosques of America this Friday.

I had the same question.

I don't know what "mewykwistmas" is talking about.

Nothing about this story is consistent with prior Regime policy or practice. Nothing about what Liberals are now saying is consistent with what they were shrieking nearly every day until Obama's immaculation. Nothing about the MSM's response is consistent with prior reporting and bias over the past 40 to 50 years.

Not that I expect consistency or honesty from any of these people; but the degree of hypocrisy has just jumped exponentially in the last 48 hrs.

Wait a minute, did they read those enemy combatants their Miranda rights first?

What about a civilian trial???

So our Nobel Peace Prize winner has escalated the war in Afghanistan, called for assasination of US citizens suspected of terrorism, engaged in the overthrow and military action including killing of innocent civilians in Libya, and now invaded a sovereign country to assasinate a foreign leader.

As Rush says, all without a single UN Resolution!!!

Zero transgressed the sovereignty of Pakistan, in violation of international law, and OBL was not mirandized, in violation of the US Constitution. Clearly an illegal operation...for a Republican president, anyway.

“This isn’t the first time he has addressed whether something is lawful or constitutional. No division of powers in the branches anymore.”

What are you talking about? One of the principal duties of the Attorney General is to provide advice to the president on whether something is legal or constitutional. Besides, the Judicial Branch is by no means the sole arbiter of the constitutionality of a law or act—the other co-equal branches of government are entitled to their own opinion, even if, at the end of the day, it is the courts that have the final say in a case properly before them. It is liberals, not conservatives, who believe in an imperial judiciary.

Eric Holder says enough wrong-headed things that it is really unnecessary ofor you to harp on him on one of the few instances in which he’s right.

Reminds me of the “good ole days” right after 911 when an artist created a monument in the image of a photo of New York white firefighters puting a flag on the heap of the world trade center. Remember that? It was shouted down by “Holder’s people” and his racers because it was not protraying diversity. So if we do a monument to the SEALs who knocked off Osama, it will have to be Black SEALs or no SEALs. No whiteys.

The fact that our strike team KILLED Osama is the ONLY thing that gives the mission any sense of completeness and closure.

When the first word trickled out that his compound had been located, and that our military elite had paid him a visit, I was in an initial state of dread that we might have taken him alive.

The way this admin has botched up everything else, I couldn’t help but expect to hear that we had him in custody, that he’d been Mirandized, and was headed for some domestic prison to be held until a date and venue could be arranged for Obama’s Court Terror Circus.

I’m EVER so happy that isn’t possible.

I’ve been fighting little online word battles today with liberal college classmates who think that only a “capture” operation could have been justified, and/or that there’s something wrong with feeling “celebratory” about the death of OBL.

Yes there really are (supposedly) educated people who are in a state of liberal dismay that OBL has been killed, and/or that people actually delight in his death. Unreal.

yeah. That was one sick comment from our AG. Pathetic and creepy from the man responsible for the the man who is the appointed head of DOJ and responsible for federal prosecutions.

Reminds me of when uhbama made that off hand comment about republicans 'can sit in the back' or his creepy "I won" statement to a response or question from republican leadership in one of his first WH meetings with them.

Just flat out kindergarten material spews from both of them. Classless and clueless to the power of 10.
