Obama’s Big Bet on Ground Zero Speech
Fox News ^ | 4/11/2011 | Chris Stirewalt

It’s clear that the White House team is thinking very big when it comes to President Obama’s Thursday visit to Ground Zero, his first since taking office.

Obama invited former President George W. Bush and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to hear him speak at the former site of the World Trade Center. Bush declined, and Giuliani’s status is unclear, but those are the kinds of guests one would invite for a major political event.

Bush has a strong defense for declining. He has kept a low profile since leaving office and largely limited his public events to a promotional tour for his memoir and charity events for wounded soldiers. But by not attending, Bush denies Obama the chance to associate himself with Bush’s iconic status in the days and months after the attack.

Had Bush been on stage when Obama took his bow for ordering the strike against bin Laden, it would have allowed Obama the chance to say that he had finally fulfilled Bush’s promise made to firefighters sorting through the burning rubble that “the whole world will hear you.”

Now that Bush has refused to pose for an Obama reelection photo, Obama will probably cancel and blame it on the rain.

Worse than pathetic.

Didn’t the libs whine that Republicans were using Ground Zero for political gain?

With each passing day, I despise them more and more and this guy, our president, most of all.

Let Rudy show up and use his speech to thank Bush, Cheney, et al for having the vision to set up gitmo, enhanced interrogation and other measures and the guts to keep them going in the face of the left’s “J’accuse” orgy (of which dear leader was a head cheerleader).

Exactly. You’ve nailed it. I suspect many folks saw right through the I directed business in Zero’s speech on Sunday night.

In fact, I have a posting friend on another site who was a HUGE zero supporter, until he saw the way he governs for the past 2 years, and this guy was extremely annoyed by Zero’s attitude of “look what I have done for you people”...

If he continues to use this event, as a campaign bravodo point, folks will get hugely annoyed. We American’s don’t like braggarts.

Ah, remember that and how the NY’ers went fleeing when they saw the low flying plane and one of his guys had to take the fall for it. The NY officials were not told of it. He did it because ‘he could’ ala clinton.

Here’s hoping Bambi goes all out!

Ticker tape parade for himself, Greek columns, crown of laurels, the works!

And may he cap it all off with a droning, condescending, hectoring bore-fest of a speech saying that now is the moment for us all to put aside our individual, petty personal agendas and unite as one behind the sweeping, righteous wisdom that is Obama’s personal agenda, whatever that is.

Weren’t they doing some sort of calendar and trying to get AF1 with the Statute of Liberty in the background? Yeah they spooked everyone badly. That was 0’s people being bone-headed. Now we’re used to stuff like that from them.

Agreed. The people who viscerally support this mission are and will remain overwhelmingly unimpressed with him, and it will be a very discordant note to much of his base. A strategic error for him, which suits me fine.

The horrid things Obama said campaigning and since- even his admin threatening to prosecute our C.I.A. agents..then wants Bush who protected our forces to stand with him...

Obama’s hypocrisy is thick.

Will the white house control who gets into the crowd? If not, zero runs the risk of being booed or heckled. I hope that happens.

Delusional. Everyone knows he's a pu$$y.

Totally pathetic. . .and yes, Bush is not going to legitimize Obama's exploitation. . nor would he ever, of course.

Obama appetitie for self-promotion insatiable and disgusting.

That’s was their excuse - updating a photo. The sky did not change, the plane didn’t nor did the Statue of Liberty. What they did could have been computer generated. It was after that - we heard of a mosque being planned for that site.

If it were legit (updating photo) - the NY officials, etc. would have been advised. No one knew what was going on - even some in DC said they had no knowledge of it - that guy took the fall and then the excuse came - photo update. IMO, it was a campaign promi$e to a few of his muzzies - fly over their victory site. Then came the news about a mosque being built there.
