Former Cuban President Fidel Castro described on Thursday as an "abhorrent act" what he calls the "murder" of Osama bin Laden and said that throwing his corpse into the sea shows "fear and insecurity" and turns him into a "more dangerous" character.
"Whatever the acts attributed to Bin Laden, the murder of a human being [who was] unarmed and surrounded by relatives constitutes an abhorrent act. That is what the government of the most powerful nation that has ever existed apparently did," 84-year-old Fidel Castro writes in his latest "Reflections" published today.
The Cuban leader also believes the U.S. shows "fear and insecurity" by executing the leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda "without due process" and later sending his body "to the depths of the sea".
In his opinion, those methods turn Bin Laden "into a much more dangerous character."
"After the initial euphoria, the very own public opinion in the United States will end up criticizing the methods that, far from protecting the citizens, will end up multiplying the feelings of hatred and revenge against them," Castro points out in his article titled "The Murder of Osama Bin Laden".
While recalling that Cuba expressed solidarity with the United States in the wake of the September 11, 2011 (sic) attacks which Bin Laden was made responsible for, and offered medical assistance, Fidel Castro reproaches the North American power for the "unjust wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan and the "horrible images" of the Guantánamo prison in "occupied Cuban territory".
"(U.S. President Barack) Obama cannot hide that Osama was executed in the presence of his children and wives, now in the custody of the authorities in Pakistan, a Muslim country of close to 200 million inhabitants, whose laws have been violated, its national dignity having been offended, and its religious traditions violated," the former Cuban President points out.
Fidel Castro also reaffirms his conviction that international terrorism will never be resolved through violence and war, at the same time recalling in his article that Bin Laden "was for years a friend of the United States, which trained him militarily, and an adversary of the U.S.S.R. and socialism."
Fidel Castro's article is the first high-level reaction in Cuba to the death of Osama Bin Laden to have been picked up and commented on by the main communications media in the island (all official).
The government of General Raúl Castro has not yet made any statement on the matter.
finally, a believer
Blow it out yer arse, Castro you old commie!
These sentiments would be echoed throughout the AMERICAN left if this had been done under GW Bush.
And all those innocent Cubans who were slaughtered by your orders was not? Remember, when you point a finger at someone, you have three more pointing right back at you.
STFU and die already Fido!!!
Fiddle is still alive? Oh, well you can tell that to the thousands the murderer OBL left without mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children and friends. Anyway, Castro should be focusing on his judgement day not ours.
Abhorrant was backing out on the brave men who went in alone to kill you and all who died or suffered at your hands. There is more blood on your hands worldwide than on Osama Bin Laden Fidel.
It’s too bad one of those loaded cigars didn’t ‘splode this cockroach.
Geez..not this old geezer again...
Fidel sweety, Your next!
I’ve been waiting for his response.
The Jason scenario.
It seems these communists are very, very slow learners. Maybe Obozo will come to his senses some day. Sorry, but we cant wait 50 years so what say we get rid of his sorry ass in 2012?
Castro, you bastard, if I could create the situation, YOU’D BE NEXT, followed by Chavez, Mugabe and the “Chia Pet”!!
I’m soooo glad Fidel finally weighed in, now I can sleep tonite.
Fidel “A la pared” Castro...complaining about executions?
Osama would have said the same if we had killed Fidel. Murderous thugs are united in their dislike of being taken out... Yawn.
Yep, now that Castro has weighed in, we can all clarify our opinions. That does it for me! (sarcasm)
Well, I thought I’d be able to sleep tonite because Fidel weighed in but I realize now that Chuckie Manson hasn’t given his comments yet, so I guess I’ll be up all nite........
I’m sure that Castro’s acolytes, Danny Glover and Sean Penn agree completely with this proclamation!
Maybe he’s worried.
If the old Commie lives long enough he should be scared to death (hope) after 21 Jan. 2013.
If only Castro had been in the room. These comments from the guy who had Che execute over 1000 without a trial.
If JFK had had a hair on his ass, we would have done this to you nearly 50 years ago, you bearded faggot!
“Geez..not this old geezer again...”
Yes, first Michael (2-ton) Moore, now Fidel, the old tyrant. Next to be heard from: Jimmy Carter.
I was in high school when Castro took power. And had several Cuban friends with relatives executed simply for being in the army.
