Editorial: Release Osama Photos To Quell Doubts
IBD Editorials ^ | May 5, 2011 | Staff

Spin: With the White House's story about how Osama bin Laden was killed changing by the hour, it's now imperative that the White House show proof he's dead, including photos and DNA analysis.

'There is no doubt that Osama bin Laden is dead," President Obama told "60 Minutes." So releasing a photo of him won't "make any difference."

In fact, there are growing doubts — not just among bin Laden supporters, but also 9/11 families, who demand release of the photos. They're doing so because parts of the White House narrative have proved false.

First we were told a "firefight" consumed most of the 40-minute assault on bin Laden's safe house.

"There were many other people who were armed in the compound" besides bin Laden, White House spokesman Jay Carney said. "There was a firefight."

It turns out bin Laden was unarmed, as were three others killed. U.S. commandos weren't, as the administration claimed, "met with a great deal of resistance."

In fact, there was no firefight. Commandos spent most of the raid gathering computer and other evidence.

Several other threads of the story have unraveled, including White House counterterror adviser John Brennan's claim that bin Laden used his wife as a "shield."

Even if the photos are verified to be true, the gullible will still doubt. There’s no point in releasing them now.

I want to see the pictures because basically I want the opposite of whatever 0bama is preaching.

The gullible won’t doubt the photos! The suspicious cynics like me will. How can we tell when they stop lying?

Disbelief of absolutely anything said, written or expressed in any form whatsoever by the Obama cabal is the default mode of any thinking person anywhere in the world.

Barry, we aren't even certain what your real name is and you think we're going to take your word for this?

You're delusional, boy.

After the Abugrab photos were released, there was an increase in bombings and terrorist attacks. Those cost the lives of U.S. troops and lots of civilians.

I don’t want one of our troops to die because we rolled out the photo of Osama Ben Laden.

Those that disagree with me, please tell me how many of our troops we would have to lose, before you would have second thoughts about the release.

That's right and guess what? Your scenario is dead on accurate and it is why the US cannot afford the destruction that pathological liars bring to this gov't.

Character matters.

It's not our problem that no one believes Obama, it's Obamas problem. He has developed a pattern of lying that makes even his most benign pronouncements suspect.

The Abugrab photos should not have been released because 0bama wanted them released. Bin Laden’s photo should be released because 0bama does not want it released. Maybe 0bama will be the one whose head is on the chopping block if the Bin Laden picture gets released...if there is one that is.

I think that there will be retaliation no matter if the pictures are released or not...the head is off the snake...now there are many, many jockeying for leadership in their network...there are many already inflamed on the Arab street...violence will flow out of this whether the pictures are in the mix or not. The Muslims do not need an excuse to hate America..they already do..they do not need a picture to force them to blow somebody up, shoot somebody...chop the head off of somebody...they already do that. Our boys are in harms way...pictures or not. Releasing the pictures is for us...the American people...1) to prove that our less than truthful president is telling the truth 2) to give some closure to the victims of 9/11..in essence we all were victimized by that horrible day..we need to know without a doubt that he is gone, out of the picture...Obama has made it almost certain that people will be questioning this for years to come..because he has shrouded this in secrecy...much like his own life. Will there ever be any transparency with this guy...even in this?

So far the only people that are gullible are the ones that are ok with not seeing the photos.

That type of test generally pays off. In this instance I’m not convinced. Going against Obama is generally a good rule of thumb.

No, there won’t be any transparency. We’ve seen that question answered over the last few days.

I’m not sure a head shot of Osama with his face mutilated by gunfire is going to fail to launch people on the street into a tirade.

I believe the guy is dead. I don’t need to see it.

I’ll continue to error on the side of our troops safety. I appreciate the alternative opinion. Take care.

I’d have preferred they captured him and placed him in the room next to the Roswell aliens at Area 51.

the more I think about this, the more I think it is hilarious .. Obama gets bin laden, but he can’t benefit politically, because he is so inept, he can’t be decisive on the photo issue.. finally he says no way, after vacillating for days and multiple messages coming out of his regime ...

IF they didn’t want to show pictures all they needed to say is “the pictures are so gruesome he isn’t recognizable, releasing them won’t prove he is dead because all that is left is hamburger” ... or something pc that says the same thing..

but instead, he looks weak and the story continues to change. he may be good at chicago style arm-twisting, but looking strong and decisive isn’t working for him.
