Data Show Bin Laden Plots; C.I.A. Hid Near Raided House

WASHINGTON — After reviewing computer files and documents seized at the compound where Osama bin Laden was killed, American intelligence analysts have concluded that the chief of Al Qaeda played a direct role for years in plotting terror attacks from his hide-out in Abbottabad, Pakistan, United States officials said Thursday.

The C.I.A. had Bin Laden’s compound under surveillance for months before American commandos killed him in an assault on Monday, watching and photographing residents and visitors from a rented house nearby, according to several officials briefed on the operation.

-snip-

With his whereabouts and activities a mystery in recent years, many intelligence analysts and terrorism experts had concluded that he had been relegated to an inspirational figure with little role in current and future Qaeda operations.

This information flies in the face of what both the Bush and Obama administrations have been saying for years. bin Laden was apparently MUCH more than just an inspirational figure-head.

The stories change by the minute, these same reliable sources probably made all of this stuff up as well.

The information gleaned from him being alive was probably of much more value than what we're going to find in those computers. His couriers were little computers. Unfortunately, we SUPPOSEDLY killed them in the raid.

Now, Pres. Obama.....what were you saying about waterboarding. Remember that Panetta is not willing to lie for you.

So let’s see, he “plotted” terror attacks (how’d that work out?), was broke, and basically hid in his room for the last six years.

A pitiful, stupid, useless coward. The perfect role model for muslims the world over.

I would think that there a quite a few “visitors” who are now constantly looking over their shoulders and ready to soil their drawers at the slightest provocation.......

LOL

Look whose jobs got changed the week before the raid??? Petraeus and Panetta. Gates is leaving. And I’m betting that Petraeus will retire. Maybe even Hillary.

This should tell the world our “pResident” could have taken him out for months....
Hmmm, wonder what spurred him to do it on May 1st?

It sure took that birth cert. business out of the news, didn’t it?

Has anyone seen or heard from Trump since the weekend?

Top it off, he interrupted Trump’s tv show then didn’t show up for over an hour....childish B.S. - or a president fighting for his political life and using all of his power to hang on?????

Now what else has been in the news that he wanted to overshadow? Gas prices haven’t changed with Osama’s death and our jobs market did not improve.

I’m calling BS on that - The notion he was much more than a figure head does not fly with the reality of actual Intel of what boots on the ground (throughout the ME) have found.

Consider all information as disinformation.

Waiting for them to post the SUPPOSED phone numbers sewn into Osama's jacket. And he also had $750...To market, to market to buy a fat pig.....

I think Saddam had like a half a mil...and chocolate!!!!

My personal thinking is that we’ve known he was there for years and have been paying the Pakis to hold him while allowing him to run the show as we intercepted everything to come out of the compound. It ain’t pretty but intell gathering seldom is.

What worries me is that Obama may have doublecrossed the pakis to save his own ego.

"So let’s see, he “plotted” terror attacks (how’d that work out?)"

Ah, actually pretty well. While al Qaeda didn't have any successful attacks on US soil, there were plenty active other places - well more than a dozen, and that's entirely ignoring what they were doing in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Madrid train bombing for example was in (I think) 2004.

By almost any measure, al Qaeda has been fairly active the last 7-years.

And that BC business was just another diversion from the real biggie out there -- Eric Holder's scandalous Mexican gunrunning operation. I believe that one might turn out to be truly hugh and series.

IMHO, Panetta is the only one who comes out of this deal looking better than before.

Some rumors say Panetta made the decision to proceed while O thought about it for 16 hrs.
I am wondering if they are bumping up Panetta so he can take over the Biden spot on the ticket.

If he does, will Hillary join him? Think she is embarrassed by the fake pictues? I am surprised Panetta told the truth about the streaming video.
Or was he giving out misinformation so we won’t be asking to see that as proof like the death photo of OBL?

I’m with you. Conservatives need to stop chasing the ball every time Obama throws it. All he’s doing is using shiny things to distract us as he continues destroying America.

Its time we controlled the narrative for a change and it ain’t whether Clinton was horrified by the bin laden killing or any other stupid crap.

I’ve done some pretty extensive reading on Bernays, Goebbels, and Sunstein and I’ve learned to recognize the tactics.

We haven’t seen misdirection and deception on this scale since the rise of the 3rd reich.

Leave it to the spinmeister Zero to screw up the explanation.

He lies so much he cannot keep any story straight.

All he had to do was tell the truth, nobody would have cared.

Alas, that is why I despise him so.

This is Hilarious, funnier than MAD magazine.

Persdon who wrote the article is an imbecile. See this:

"The C.I.A. surveillance team in the rented house near Bin Laden’s hide-out took pains to avoid detection not only by the suspected Qaeda operatives they were watching but by Pakistani intelligence and the local police."

Stakeout in miliary garrison, a stone throw from elite military academy in dictatorship. You can not just "rent the house". Even if agents were Pashtun, they would stick out like a sore thumb in the close knit neighborhood where variation of accent could blow your cover. Neighbors would know. ISI would know. AQ would know. Only CIA would not.

Further:

"Observing from behind mirrored glass, C.I.A. officers used cameras with telephoto lenses and infrared imaging equipment to study the compound...."

OBL house had TINTED widows, and stakeout across the street had MIRRORED window(s)

Nothing suspicious to Paki ISI :-)

Even funnier:

"...and they used sensitive eavesdropping equipment to try to pick up voices from inside the house and to intercept cellphone calls..."

So we are led to believe that cellphones are eavesdropped by listening to voice in the room. Did the writer ever hears of NSA? More and more I tend to believe that BURN AFTER READING IS A DOCUMENTARY FILM. A league of morons has taken over.

Maybe his value was decreasing. Maybe they found out about a big attack that is in the works. Something caused the CIA/military to act now - I doubt Obama did it.

I looked at the cables released on 4/25 and there’s nothing related. Everything released on the 25’th had to do with Nicaragua (I had no idea there was so much Muslim activity there... the PLO and others).

Such missions must be accomplished during moonless nights (i.e. Moon below horizon) so window of opportunity is every 25 or so days (2-3 moonless nights every month) Moonless nights were around May 1st. Allegedly, first mission day earlier was aborted.

I believe it was something leaked by Wikileaks (gitmo files)April 25 that triggered action, so the mission could not wait the next moonless night at the end of May.

Al Qaeda was composed of two councils. One was IIRC concerned with financing. The other with operations. It wasn’t a monarchy with just one head man, it was, shall we say, very “democratic.” Al Qaeda is an umbrella organization consisting of a number of independent terrorist groups most of which existed before al Qaeda was ever formed and which can exist after al Qaeda’s demise. each of those came with its own leadership and have seats on al Qaeda’s councils.

The storyline is now specifically built to stop the questions surrounding the non-judicial killing of Osama bin Ladin. If OBL was no longer involved in the leadership of al-Qa’ida he would no longer be a military target. At that point he could only be prosecuted in a court of law, special or otherwise. Non-judicial killing of non-combatants, aka political killings, are illegal. The only way to get away with them is to 1. Be on the winning team when the dust settles, and/or 2. Keep it quiet. Well, Obama has certainly thrown away option 2.
