Know Your Government Test
Intercollegiate Studies Institute ^ | N/A | N/A

This test is not an easy one. It is a test of your civics knowledge. It is one of the better ones that I have seen. The website reports that college professors average about 55%. I find that odd. See the chart following the quiz that shows how our elected officials did.

I will fess up to a 93.94% score missing 2 out of the 33. This test is by the same group that did one in '08, '09 and '10. Enjoy.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people”?

And this one I should have known since I have the paper right on my desk..... But, I was quick to answer thinking I had it right! Dumb mistake on my part.... :)

Well I goofed big time. Try this.

There should be 33 questions based on the larger 2008 test.

Sorry!

Same result, same opinion. And the test is only 10 questions long.

Oh, that’s right, all college professors are hippie-dippie, PC, liberals, who would know nothing about anything practical like government? I think even my liberal colleagues would sometimes surprise people. disagree with their conclusions but respect their knowledge and research.

Your profession is demonized with good reason. Certainly there are knowledgeable left-wing professors who would ace this quiz, but there are also many who would fail it miserably. As a college student, I found it necessary to correct my professors on at least a few occasions as to basic American history. And it doesn't matter if they were history professors or not - a professional academic should know the basics at least as well as your average Joe, but often, truth is not their priority.

9/10 - 90%

I was surprised when a score appeared after 10 questions.

“but often, truth is not their priority.”

In your experience. I realize arguing for academia in FR is a lost cause, but I will continue to do so. College Professors lean liberal, for a number of reasons, but there are many good professors who are conservative, or not political at all. (Some of the Boffins I know are brilliant but wouldn’t know a vote from a plow, but brilliant in applied mathematics).

Good that you correct your professors. Want to make a difference? Become one. You can set an example. Warning, the pay is awful, no job security, and you become a target of ire from both sides.

On the 33 question version:

"You answered 32 out of 33 correctly — 96.97 %"

Missed the taxes and spending question; said gov't most often increases both in recessions. Just seems that way, I guess.

You're in the wrong university system. You should get yourself hired here in California in the UC or CSU system - they are plenty well paid and have full job security, especially once they get tenure. Just keep your mouth shut about any of the slightest possible conservative views you might have until after you get tenure.

In almost every instance, citizens generally are more informed on these matters than are politicians. If they could break out FReepers, the numbers would be staggeringly lopsided against the politicians.
