Bin Laden’s Neighbors Say Compound Was Under Surveillance Since 2005
Jamestown Foundation ^ | May 5, 2011 | Arif Jamal

Posted on 05/06/2011 3:11:57 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

An official from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) told the BBC that the compound was raided by the ISI while still under construction in 2003 when the agency believed senior al-Qaeda operative Abu Faraj al-Libi was on site. Since then, however, the official claimed the intelligence agency had taken no interest in the facility: "The compound was not on our radar; it is an embarrassment for the ISI… We're good, but we're not God" (BBC, May 3). However, in a statement that appeared to reveal the confusion over the incident at the highest levels of the Pakistani government, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that the ISI "had been sharing information [on the compound] with the CIA and other friendly intelligence agencies since 2009" (The News [Islamabad], May 4)...

The neighbors' accounts contradict official claims that the house was not on the radar of the intelligence agencies. According to several of these witnesses, the house was under continuous and heavy surveillance by the Pakistani intelligence agencies. A local resident observed: "The compound was continuously under the watch of agents of the intelligence and security agencies. They always looked suspiciously at every unusual interest in that compound by our guests. I always had the impression that it was some sort of an intelligence facility." [7] However, no neighbor ever saw any uniformed personnel visiting the compound. According to a local journalist, it is unlikely that any of the security agents deputed to carry out human surveillance on the compound would have been given any inkling of who was living there. [8] However, it seems clear those directing the surveillance were aware of the identity of the suspects under watch in the compound, indicating that the residents were under the protection of a Pakistani intelligence agency since occupation began.

With all these theories, a good one might be that this is an obama RE-ELECTION ploy. Imagine this:
Everyone knew where OBL was, but they left him alone as it was easy to monitor him there and see who came and went, etc. That explains why Pakistan didn’t out him.

Obama knew all this, but saw a bigger personal advantage in killing OBL and taking full credit for the decision himself, which HE DID!

The Paks knew that we knew and that we knew that they knew etc., so ergo, the HUGE SURPRISE when OBL is snuffed.

The Paks don’t know whether they are afoot or on horseback. Neither do we...

Which makes them particularly dangerous.

How long did we know he was there? Did we get more info pretending we didn’t know his whereabouts? Did Obama actually hurt our long term intelligence?

I don't think there's any confusion over the incident, just how best to cover up / explain their obvious complicity.

If it turns out we knew for 6 months+ where Osama was and took no action until stampeded by the April 25th wikileaks dump (which revealed we knew the name of the courier he was living with),

......then this will turn out, in the end, to be a negative for the President.

Wonder too if our intelligence agencies had hints of attacks... to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. They were hoping to stop an attack.

“Knock, knock.”

“Who’s there?”

“Osama bin Hidin’.”

[giggle] “Osama bin Hidin’ Who?”

[breaking door noise] [automatic weapons fire]

[40 minutes later]

“I think Osama’s dead.”

“No I’m not!”

[more automatic weapons fire]

“Surrender or die. Wait, were we supposed to say that before or after?”

LOLOLOLOL!

Of course, that joke was offensive to his Muslim faith. But there are places here and there in the 57 states where people will laugh at it.

I’m pretty sure a case can be made that the long term intelligence of the country has been on a steady downward spiral since 1961.

The headline says we knew since 2005. That means Bush and Cheney were in on it.

That particular part of 'the fact pattern' has not been contradicted as yet, we've supposedly known since August of last year. That is, indeed, 6 months...

......then this will turn out, in the end, to be a negative for the President.

That remains to be seen yet. There appear to be several different, and possibly conflicting agendas in play here, so he final denouement is anybody's guess...

If the Assange wiki-leaks was set to release this, then Obama had to act. It wouldn’t surprise me at all that the CIA has been watching and listening for some time.

I think this was a re-election ploy, but it went awry.

0bama said he sent SEALs in so we could get a body. Supposedly if we did an airstrike, the story was we would never know. Yet we have done plenty of airstrikes, and always sent teams in to scour for pieces afterward. It doesn’t make ID of the targets impossible, and there is always chatter afterward, anyway.

I think the SEALs were sent in to try and capture OBL alive. If they did, then you have a year and a half of the media talking about OBL’s trial, his punishment, etc. The media could talk about OBL 24/7 right through the election, and discuss over and over how 0bama caught him. Plus, that is much more in tune with 0bama’s Liberal psychology, which would have wanted to see “the rule of law” applied. No way 0bama authorizes a kill mission, even for OBL.

The SEALs had a different idea. They see leftists prosecuting their buddies because a terrorist got a fat lip. They see leftists trying to free terrorists in trials left and right. They take OBL alive, and maybe one day OBL is walking free in America on a taxpayer funded government stipend, with a big cash settlement for all the pain and suffering America inflicted on him.

Hell, we’re paying for a cliff-side house overlooking a beach in Bermuda, as well as clothes and food, for some Al Qaida terrorists from Guantanamo right now. They probably have a stipend too. We couldn’t send them home because their home country might not be nice to them, on account they were terrorists.

So right as the SEALs are about to go in, they have a malfunction of their video system, and next thing you know OBL is dead. Seems kind of convenient for America, and inconvenient for 0bama

Now, by the next election, OBL will be old news. Somehow, I tend to think Liberals would have preferred things go differently.

Wiki-leaks may have rushed things, but I think 0bama’s plan for this whole thing was a little different, and more political than one would think. That might even have explained the angry expression as he watched the operation unfold. The SEALs did what they felt was best for America, and 0bama was helpless to stop them.

Be funny if that SEAL who offed Bin Ladin actually did fire a shot which changed the course of history.
