If they’ll sell out the babies, as West’s position does, they’ll sell you out on the money eventually. You can be sure of it. This was predictable.

Agreed. I’m not buying it either. West needs to vote the prinicpled conservative line on which he won the office...that includes the legislative efforts that may fall short of his grand target, but help in getting us to there.

I'm appalled and nauseated by this thread.

Col. West is one of the most solid conservatives to grace the halls of Congress. Throwing him under the bus and the "go to hell" and other sickening posts is indicative of how some posters are beneath contempt for hastily jumping to wrong conclusions.

For those whose conservative principles are magnificent and whose political knowledge is zero....let me state I was in elective office....and MANY times I cast a principled conservative vote that was not going with the flow.....and disconcerted and bewildered some of my supporters.

If you're not in on the behind-the-scenes politics that go on in each and every public governmental body, let me tell you that there may be a damn good reason a member will vote a certain way, knowing the folks out there won't understand and will be ready to knife him in the back.

There may be a strategery to Allen's vote that will be evident later.

But the hot-headed know-nothings would abandon a Margaret Thatcher if she voted the wrong way in their eyes, but the right way according to her own more long-range political goals.

It's really disgusting some of the posts here. I trust Col. West and will stake my reputation on the fact that he voted the way he did for A REASON !

They will dang sure hear us in November 2012, if they do not straighten up. These guys promised action... and that action was not dependent upon our staying on their arses and doing their jobs for them... it was dependent upon a promise and a vote... but I hear you and what you describe is the reality of those that ran as TEA PARTY PATRIOTS and were only using the symbolism to get elected. Maybe enough will stay strong and maybe even more of them believe in our cause as much as we do. I pray.

you make some valid points. That’s why this is a good item for discussion. I’m not a beltway tactics kind of guy myself except to know it’s more involved than some Freepers realize. We have the House - now what do we do with it. Boehner appears to not have a clue.

we need a Lyndon Johnson on our side in there. No - not some liberal who pees on his lawn while talking to reporters. But someone tough and savvy enough to twist arms and browbeat people into getting what he wants. We need to get rid of Boehner and get some tough folks in there.

“school-based health centers” (SBHC)

Will SBHCs be handing out condoms to kids? Will abortions for kids be done at school or recommended? How about “Drug Treatment”? Will parents be notified of all treatment and counseling?

I think we all know the answers to the above questions & they are not good answers.

My child's health is my business, not the school's business. Their business is to educate. There are plenty of parental options for health care for their child, & none of them need be on the school campus. If my kid is sick, I expect to be called immediately, & I ALONE will deal with it.

I am disappointed in West's vote, not just because it is more spending of money we don't have, but because of what this leads to. What the H#LL is West thinking?

And the lame excuse his spokeswoman gave only adds to my disappointment. Does West believe that because we are at war with Libya, he can just ignore the creeping bankruptcy of this country, & instead actively participate in our demise, $100 million at a time? Can he not walk & chew gum at the same time?

A strong conservative, faced with the debt & deficit we have, would fight against EVERY new spending plan. How does he expect to pay for this, more deficit or more taxes? West proves here to be a weak conservative, & now promotes the gov’t (socialist) takeover of our children's health care. For a man who supposedly wants smaller, less gov't, this vote is a puzzler.

But he — or at least his spokeswoman — seems to be saying that we should forget about defunding (repealing?) obummercare and focus instead on other funding issues like middle east, Pakistan and osama and palestinians and unity agreements and fatah and hamas!!!!! What what???

But even if we know it will die we should still keep sending the bills over til hell freezes over.

Agree completely.

Unless there is something else that will further the conservative cause that the House might undertake, I've no problem with them pestering the Senate with Healthcare Repeal bills.

Otherwise, I've little interest in the House initiating any legislation whatsoever.

No reason to panic here...the bill passed. I’m sure West knew it would pass the House. I’m suspecting that he just sent a message. As some have pointed out, there is more to almost any legislation than meets the eye.

When there are no negative consequences, it is the perfect time to send a signal.

Strategery. Why don’t we all take a breath and let the conservatives work on a strategy? There are other ways to get things done, rather than being a bull in a china shop.

I hate to quibble, but a good case can be made that he did vote the “principled conservative” line — he sent a message without costing passage of the bill. Folks on here are acting like West stands in the way of repeal of Obama Care.
He does not.

Votes are counted all the time, and certain folks allowed to stand for a principle in ways that do not effect outcomes. He only has one vote folks.

So West's position here is not automatically an anti-conservative position. I don't know if I agree with it, but maybe we could drop the knee-jerk reactions and debate our opinions of its merits or lack thereof?

That would require thought, dirt....

Col. West has more spine and guts than 99% of the US Congress. He has more spine, guts, and patriotism than 100% of the Regime. You can always count on Col. West to do what is right for his country and for the American people. We can take that to the bank. Col. West’s men trusted him with their lives; we can too.
