Sen. Snowe braces for tea party challenge in Maine

WASHINGTON — Maine's Olympia Snowe has long thrived as one of the Senate's leading GOP moderates, but she has recently sided with tea partyers on high-profile votes involving Libya, the budget and the environment as she braces for a primary challenge from the right.

Such votes could help Snowe fend off tea party foes who mock her as a "RINO" - Republican In Name Only - and hope to sink her bid for a fourth term next year.

Snowe insisted she's been true to her moderate roots.

“but she has recently sided with tea partyers on high-profile votes involving Libya, the budget and the environment”

This simply proves how disingenuous she is.

the only way the social utopian experiment in new-england survives is with the money its congressional members bring back home.... assuming she can bring back the cash from washington she will be re-elected

"Frankly, I share their frustration," Snowe said. "They raised some significant issues about the direction of our country."

LOL! She must be frustrated with herself then. How disingenuous of her. These career politicians are repulsive to me how they hang on so tightly to a seat that's doesn't belong to them. Her and her $2M 'threat'.

Retired actually would be better. I know she is not perfect in voting, but she has had the hardest life of anyone in America. I would not wish her life on anyone. Nobody in America has suffered as much as she has.

Oh, please. She lost her parents and her husband. I’m quite sure others have suffered just as much, if not more. How about the family who lost both of their sons on 9/11? It’s ridiculous to try to compare suffering like that.

I've lost 2 Grandfathers, 2 Grandmothers, 1 Great Aunt, 1 Aunt, my first Wife to breast cancer, my first Wifes Mother and Father, my first Wives Brother, my Mother and Father six months apart......2 Dogs and 1 Cat....it's called death, the present, but not for long, nature of this life.
I've been laid off. It's always been an opportunity.

Do I miss then all? Yes! Do I live in the past? No!

She suffers not a wit more than anyone else.

You know Rove’s game. The hell with the constitution as long as there is a “R” by the name. Was she the one that voted Obamacare out of committee?

Did I just enter the land of the Woo-Woo? I can’t believe people who think like you exist!

Born with a silver spoon in her mouth and living the high life (complete with all of the benefits (wink...wink...bump...bump...) of being a national politician. Yeah.......that’s really a hard life.

Maine is a rich/poor state. the only thing that separates them is a lot of white pine trees and a hand full state employees that do not want to chop their own wood.

Nothing will change up there. Nothing ever does. Maybe they will just go total blue, as Massachusetts retirees evacuate this hole they have created here and head north.

It is a fine place, if you enjoy wilderness, hillbillies, black flies, and mangy black bears rooting through your trash.

I once knew a lady from Maine
Who’s lust was glory and fame

Of cause and effect she cared little
Whilst she played like Nero on a fiddle

From a state of people so few
A RINO who cared like a shrew

If the good rise up in shame
Her legacy will be on the wane

Liberty and time will tell
Not too late we’ve rung the bell
