President says bin Laden raid was ‘longest 40 minutes of my life’

Watching the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound unfold last week from the White House Situation room was interminable, the president revealed to CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview that aired Sunday evening.

"It was the longest 40 minutes of my life," Obama told correspondent Steve Kroft during a conversation taped days after bin Laden's death. A photo of the national security team viewing the action remotely has quickly become a touchstone of the May 1 event, but officials have revealed little about what was going on behind the scenes, citing security concerns.

Obama described the mood as "very tense," revealed he felt "nervous" and said officials were talking as they sat in the Situation Room. But he stressed that they were busy listening to real-time reports. "There were big chunks of time in which all we were doin' was just waiting," Obama said. He added that the only comparable episode of tense anticipation in his earlier life was when his daughter Sasha contracted meningitis at three months.

All I care about is that our guys got out of there unscathed and Osama's death served as some consolation to the world for the atrocities perpetrated by Islam.

And to all those who practice Islam...Like it or not...you are funding their cause in some way, shape or form.

And ... we are back to the ever-changing meningitis story.

“He added that the only comparable episode of tense anticipation in his earlier life was when his daughter Sasha contracted meningitis at three months.”

Obama fudging another health-care horror story? (Yes, Barry Lies Again)
HotAir ^ | 09/19/09 | Ed Morrissey

Snip: In her speech yesterday, Michelle Obama told a story to which every parent can relate — the moment that a child may have a severe illness that could kill them or damage them for life (via JammieWearingFool):

“I will never forget the time eight years ago when Sasha was four months that she would not stop crying. And she was not a crier, so we knew something was wrong. So we fortunately were able to take her to our pediatrician that next morning. He examined her and same something’s wrong. We didn’t know what. But he told us that she could have meningitis. So we were terrified. He said, get to the emergency room right away. And fortunately for us, things worked out, because she is now the Sasha that we all know and love today — (laughter) — who is causing me great — excitement.” (Laughter.)

Things worked out because Sasha got immediate attention, and turned out not to have meningitis after all, as the New York Times reports (and as Mrs. Obama hints in the speech)

Snip:

Maybe someone should have told Mrs. Obama’s husband. In a speech to nurses just eight days earlier, Barack Obama told the story quite a bit differently (emphasis mine):

“When our youngest daughter, Sasha, was diagnosed with meningitis when she was just three months old, it was one of the scariest moments of my life. And we had to have a spinal tap administered and she ended up being in the hospital for three or four days. And it was touch and go, we didn’t know whether she’d be permanently affected by it. It was the nurses who walked us through what was happening and made sure that Sasha was okay.”

Does anyone remember when President Bush stayed in the class room for 7 mins while security got things in place, and John Kerry said that the Dims sat stunned for 40 mins?

Bush was vilified for waiting for security, but 40 mins for a Dim is thoughtful. BS

I think that when Barry is “servicing” Moochelle for 40 minutes, that probably seems much, much longer.

So the Black ‘activist’ turned into military expert/Army General is now commenting on the strains of military command...(barf)

What a child playing soldier. This guy wouldn’t make it through the first week of boot-camp.

In fact, with his background, he would never be allowed in the military in the first place.

What a poseur...disgusting.

It was a long 40 minutes. What amazement he must have felt, out there on the 14th hole, being told that the UBL raid was going down.

Imagine the trepidation he must have felt, finishing his putt, knowing that on the other side of the world, a major event was going down that could shape the future of the GWOT. Imagine the excitement of being dragged off the course ear-first by a huffy, out-of-breath Valerie Jarrett, when you were teeing up on the 15th hole. The heartbreak of being told that "playing through" wasn't the same as "steadfast resolve". The disappointment at the lack of cool phones or dramatic SEAL raid soundtrack playing in the Situation Room. Lame!

It must have been a terrible strain. Not knowing moment to moment if they had remembered to save your game of Tiger Woods Golf that you had left playing on the Tandberg VTC terminal. Yeah, they wanted to use it to watch SEAL TV, but jeez boring, right?! Obama could have cracked under the pressure of being more than 15 feet from the nearest teleprompter. The cameraman was there, taking his picture constantly, and that must have been a relief. Little consolation if he had missed The Voice, which was on next.

Yeah, I mean technically it was a recording from earlier in the week, but Obama had already planned to watch it, and who trusts recordings anyway? What if you don't watch it on time, and it just assumes you don't care and deletes itself? It's a terrible risk to take. All so Gates and Hillary can hog the TV with their stupid boring helicopter show. The only one that blew up was cuz it ran into a wall. Ghey.

Obama is a hero for enduring all this. A lesser man would have broken under the strain. I don't know where we would have found a lesser man, but if he's out there, somewhere, he should sleep well, knowing that Obama shouldered the whole epic burden himself.

I can understand that it was a tense time for him, but if this is the most tense he has ever been, he has lived a charmed life.

The longest 40 minutes of my life was watching that SOB get inaugurated in January 2009. I was dating a liberal lady back then, and she badgered me into watching it.

She’s out of my life now, mercifully, but that anti-American, clueless, brainwashed twit is still in the White House.
