BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick is proposing tougher gun laws to help curb youth violence.

Patrick said Monday his bill would tighten existing gun laws by giving police new criminal sanctions and investigative tools to go after guns and gangs.

The bill would also create three new gun-related crimes — assault and battery with a firearm, assault with a firearm, and a "felon in possession" law that matches existing federal law.

Patrick said he would also ask for $10 million in public and private funding to fill in gaps in programs and resources needed to make neighborhoods safer, including guaranteeing that young men coming out of jail have the resources needed to stay out of trouble.

Patrick made the announcement at a community center in Boston.

The comments are not exactly on Cadillac Deval's side as of now. The criminals will simply ignore the laws and crime will continue. At worst it will be a slap on the wrist in MA for the criminals.

“Gov. Deval Patrick is proposing tougher gun laws to help curb youth violence.”

Tougher gun laws: That’l do the trick!

How about puttin’ gun totin’ youth in jail for 20-50 years; maybe that would deter youth crime even more; ya think??

Every gun law ever written is UNconstitutional.

and a "felon in possession" law that matches existing federal law.

Will Obama and Holder sue MA for passing laws that duplicate federal laws, like they did to AZ for illegal immigration? (rhetorical question, we all know the answer)

Welcome to Assachusetts. The beatings will continue until morale improves.

These will just be plea bargained away just like the existing laws.

Interesting letter to the editor in our local paper the other day. The writer stated that statistics released by the FBI indicate that guns are only involved in 10% of violent crimes. I’ve not had an opportunity to verify that, but his statement was thought provoking: Since that is the case, do we have actually a gun problem or is it a violence problem?

I feel safer already.

Of course, I don’t live in Marxachussettes. But hey, a new gun law anywhere propagates waves of safety out into the surrounding universe.

We have a gun problem. Not enough honest citizens have access to guns.

All this does is make a state law matching what is already federal law. Here's what the bill is really about:

Patrick said he would also ask for $10 million in public and private funding to fill in gaps in programs and resources needed to make neighborhoods safer, including guaranteeing that young men coming out of jail have the resources needed to stay out of trouble.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s ALWAYS about the money with these professional political crooks on Beacon Hill. All the blathering about “reducing violent crime” is a lot of eyewash. MA has some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation, yet still bemoans gun violence problems. Their solution? More the same old same old. Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

BTW, for the record, I love “Marxachusetts”.
