The military establishment, it appears, is willing to drag congressional Republicans kicking and screaming into the post-Don't Ask, Don't Tell era. The US Navy has authorized its chaplains to perform same-sex marriages on military bases in states that legally recognize such unions. That news came in a memo from the service's head chaplain (PDF), dated April 13:
Consistent with the tenets of his or her religious organization, a chaplain may officiate a same-sex, civil marriage: if it is conducted in accordance with a state that permits same-sex marriage or union; and if that chaplain is, according to the applicable state and local laws, otherwise fully certified to officiate that states marriages...if the base is located in a state where same-sex marriage is legal, then base facilities may normally be used to celebrate the marriage. This is true for purely religious services (e.g., a chaplain blessing a union) or a traditional wedding (e.g., a chaplain both blessing and conducting the ceremony).
The policy's unlikely to have a significant impact on gay or military communities: There's no naval base, for example, in Iowa, one of five states (along with the District of Columbia) that recognize same-sex marriages. And until the DADT repeal is certified by the Pentagon, no service members are likely to be hitching up at the Washington Navy Yard. Not only that, chaplains who disagree with gay marriage on theological grounds are under no obligation to perform the ceremonies, which shrinks the pool of willing wedding officiators to virtually nil.
But there's symbolic power in the policy changeenough to get a rise out of social conservatives.

Between this nonsense and the new policy allowing women to serve on subs, it ALMOST seems like this regime is out to destroy the military ... hmmmm
Repeated.....a fun thread a few down the listing. Good for those who were unable to see the first one though.
Is this really the America we want?
No and one day something will snap.
I don't see your point in describing any thread like this as fun.... What is your point?
And when a real secession movement starts "they" will wonder why. TIme to unhitch from this twisted wagon.
pass the barf bag...
Sorry, did a search and it didn’t come up....my bad.
No biggie. It needs to be known by everyone here. It is tragic what is happening.
As we were putting out to sea,
We spied a German warship.
The Captain paced the quarter-deck,
Parading in his corset.
"What ho!" we cried, "We'll sink your ship!"
And so we up and sinked her,
But the cabin boy was saved alive,
And buggered in the sphincter.
Cute. Suggest you mention that to the next SEAL you run across, stud.
There have always been gays in the military, and there always WILL be gays in the military, but the smart ones have always kept it quiet.
Warships are dangerous places at the best of times. Bad things can happen if you’re not careful. Bad things HAVE happened to gay sailors who got too frisky or friendly with hard-nosed straight squids.
I really don’t see that changing much. Although I could be wrong.
Hussein’s destruction of America continues.
Wrong, very wrong.
I think there are some US cities that offer one-stop shopping.
Well, it’s the Navy: “rum, sodomy and the lash” you know.
Great minds....
This really isn’t a joking matter.
This really isn’t a joking matter.
No a good thing. Not saying the Big Guy Upstairs will let a hypersonic whiz missile take out a Nimitz-class on account of it, but why BE IDIOTIC?
Homosexuality is bad for morale because it’s immoral. It’s like allowing animal abusers. A lot of animal abusers are discrete about it. Not not bestiality. Just abuse of animals. They do it in private. In fact the animals often assent to it, they get a sort of masochistic pleasure from it. At least someone might argue that, and once so argued who could deny it? Pets love their humans. Should the Navy allow discrete private cock-fighting and dog-fighting clubs? Why not?
no puns intended. ewwwwwwwwwww
“....it ALMOST seems like this regime is out to destroy the military...”
.
ALMOST?
Another nail in the coffin of America.
Federal govt should not allow chaplains to do this.
The states these people reside in most likely will not recognize it.
I know Obama wants these court cases to occur.
FUBO
If a couple of sodomite sailors want to get hitched at a Naval base in Marxistchusetts, and there are only a couple of chaplains there, and who are NOT inclined to do so, count on them being COMPELLED to perform the perverse charade. You can take that to the bank.
No, there haven't. The quiet ones aren't "gays," they're "homosexuals."
There is a huge difference, and if homo-leftists insist on redefining the language for us, we can at least direct this redefining into a rational realm. "Gay" describes homosexuals who are proud of their perversion, embrace it, and expect everyone around them to just giggle with glee over it with them as well.
There are many who suffer from homosexual urges who don't meet this definition.
And you are wrong about bad things happening to "gays" if the full implementation goes through. They will be untouchable. Even a hint of disapproval will be a career ender.
Ahhhh
Now when the swabbies transfer, they won’t have to leave their buddies behind
Great; now we have the U.S. Military joining the “Cornholers ‘R Us” gang.....
“they wont have to leave their buddies behind”
The rear guard...as it were.
I’m glad my dad (USN retiree) is not around to see this obscene nonsense.
Only now it will be the straight squid who will get in trouble.
I hadn't quite thought of it that way, but I'll grant your point.
And, sadly, as far as career officers and enlisted men are concerned, your point on disapproval being a career-ender is germane as well. In fact, I have noted on other threads that I even foresee the rise of a new "political officer" class evolving in the services from the present "equal opportunity officers", but embracing much more than ethnic diversity and given real clout. For all intentions and purposes they will be "zampolits" on a perpetual hunt for any sign of political incorrectness.
At the lower end of the enlisted spectrum, however, I am not sure how much things are going to change. The squids at that level are not careerists, don't give a rat's ass about political correctness, and unless I am seriously mistaken, don't like queers very much.
The first time one of the "gay and proud" tries to act up with a hard nosed BM3, he's liable for fall down a ladder. Below decks, and away from the officers and chiefs, the sailors on any warship have their own hierarchy and their own rules. That's what I don't see changing much.
And we get closer and closer to the fall of the empire.
Captain, the men havent eaten in days.

“Consistent with the tenets of his or her religious organization.......”
Really? Orders will be orders and tenets overboard.
This is the last grasp of a dying Republic, I say that all Christians (and conservatives) stay away from the Federal US Military from now on..!
I’m not aware of any current Naval base in Massachusetts.
But I'm a little doubtful of whether the squids will be allowed to be as intolerant of "gays" as they would like to be. If/when the repeal goes through, activist homosexuals will literally swarm into the military, at least at first - the way they initially swarm into "marriage" when a state mandates this perversion. It won't be a static change by any estimate. Those militant activists joining will push the envelope to the limit in order to further demoralize and desensitize society further. They won't take any kind of "disrespect" and will now have an avid, listening ear in their commander-in-chief regarding any "misconduct."
Just look at the submarine commander who recently came to light with an entertainment ritual on board that merely poked fun at homosexuals. DADT repeal hasn't even gone through, and yet, his career has been ended nevertheless.
Well, it’s certain were going to find out one way or another.
The gays might, as you say, swarm into the military, but what the results of that will be is anyone’s guess at this point.
Military life is a whole different world than what they are used to, and I can foresee numerous ways that an overly promiscuous and aggressive gay sailor could easily find himself in genuine mortal peril.
Like I said, ships are dangerous places at the best of times. A sudden shove from a darkened passageway can send a person headlong down a ladder. Tools or paint cans can “fall” at inappropriate times. People can be walking on a weather-deck, slip and fall overboard. All of those, and many more besides, have happened before.
Any squid who has spent more than a year or so at sea has heard stories about “accidents” like that where there are no witnesses and nobody knows anything about anything.
It may not be as bad now as it was in the 70s when I was in the Navy. Then, officers and chiefs didn’t even dare go into certain berthing compartments at night. But I still doubt it has changed that much.
The below decks culture of a Navy warship is a completely different world.
Well like I’ve always said 80 men go out and 40 couple come back.
Well like I’ve always said 80 men go out and 40 couple come back.
NOTE: A chaplain will only be able to do this if their endorsing denomination allows the same. Chaplains are not allowed to do anything that violates the tenets of the group they represent.
The real issue is combat duty, most open gays from the military are silent until they got wounded or sent home. Some facts about you just aren’t too relevant when you are really under enemy fire.
I didn't know, but just a hypothetical.
