MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Forecasters say the Mississippi River could crest late Monday at Memphis — hours sooner than previously predicted — but the mayor says the city's ready for it.

Mayor AC Wharton said that despite the tightened timeframe, he's confident that precautions such as door-to-door warnings have prepared the city.

"We don't have as much time, but fortunately we're ready for it," Wharton told The Early Show on CBS Monday.

They have to keep them going, they need the Votes.

When my Father was a kid in New Jersey, he said the Union guys would pass out $5 Bills on Election Day to insure the right people got voted in.

The price has gone way up since then.

New Orleans’ syndrome goes north up the river.

If the Old River Structures fail and the Mississippi River diverts, New Orleans won’t have to worry about flooding for a few hundred years.

Not looking to good for lower Acadiana and I’m afraid the spillways will not be able to divert enough water and that they will dynamite the levee at St. Bernard or Plaquemines.

"I just want a new life and relocation," Blue said. "I would like the elected officials to come down here to see this with their own eyes and see what we're going through."

Tip: don't live next to a river, deadbeat.

Memphis was a fine city until the W/B ratio went from 60/40 to 40/60.

A former class mate of mine was robbed and murdered on the streets of Memphis, in broad day light in 1970, age 25. That I am aware of, his killer has never been caught.

Floods, tornados, etc, used to be acts of God. But since we are now gods, we are responsible.

Well Mr. Blue, a good Democrat is president. You can’t blame your problems on Bush.

And this time they really are blowing the levees.
