No Breakfast For Kids Wearing ‘Wrong’ Shoes At Grade School

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Public Schools is apologizing to a Chicago mother and her two young sons, ages 5 and 6, after they were denied breakfast because they came to schools wearing the wrong kind of shoes.

The Nicholson brothers only grab a quick snack before heading to class because they qualify for a full free breakfast at Adam Powell Grade School. It’s something they look forward to every day, and it hurt when they were recently turned away.

They were wearing black athletic shoes. The boys told their mom that the assistant principal, Angela Peagler wouldn’t let them eat because their shoes didn’t fit the school uniform, which calls for a regular black dress shoe...

Edwards says the boys have been wearing the shoes all year and administrators never complained...

The school’s dress code does not say the shoes have to be black dress shoes...

the real outrage here is that the schools are responsible for feeding breakfast to the students.

The real outrage here is not that the schools are responsible for feeding breakfast to the students. It is not even that the students' parents are so entitled and arrogant that they become indignant if the free grub isn't served on precisely their terms. No, the real outrage is that the government and the media are so corrupt that the school apologized to the uppity deadbeats and the media treats this as some sort of victory for righteousness.

Little kids have to put up with this kind of cr**.

I agree. These boys are 5 and 6 years old and they were told they are no good and can't have food because of shoes. Good chance they will grown up thinking they are no good based on everything irrelevant. Unbelievable. Good grief, the right or wrong of the government providing food in schools is a separate issue.

“What the hell do these kids do for breakfast in the summer...starve???”

No, their parents’d be spending the money they’d otherwise be spending on whatever it is they spend money on. No doubt other needful things, like cancer medicine and rent.

They have the time and money for a snack before they get their taxpayer funded freeloader breakfast? What a bunch of BS. Just give them and extra piece of toast in the morning and stop leaching off the hard working people of America, you lazy unfit mother.

The kids are Holder’s people. I think the AP is too.

I disagree. Education is not essential to live, food is.

If parents don’t feed their kids, they should have their kids taken away from them.

Oh no, there are summer programs in most places to feed the same children that qualify for the “free” breakfast and lunch programs at school. Years ago I took my kids to a park in town during the summer and a lady was serving meals, she insisted that my kids get a “free” lunch. I informed her that my children had already had lunch and I also explained to her that the “free” food she was handing out wasn’t free to the taxpayers. She didn’t understand what I was saying at all...she insisted that my children should get a “free” meal even if they tossed it in the trash because if she didn’t feed a certain number of “needy” children the funding would be cut. Liberal logic.

I saw this story as being about power and control too.

I disagree.

The lesson I see being taught here is that if you are angry and indignant and self-righteous enough then everyone will give you everything for free and the rules won’t apply to you.

Call it “The Barry and Michelle Story”.

Education is not essential to live, food is.

And parents should feed their own damn kids.

Around here I believe they open up the schools in the summer to serve the breakfast and lunch. Wouldn’t want the parents to have to spend their food stamps on actually feeding the children. Cannot confirm on the summer, but just looked it up, and the Omaha Public Schools serves 19,000 “free” breakfasts daily.

And that thy call it "free" breakfast. It ain't free. Somebody's paying for it (and I'm guessing these "somebodies" are responsible for feeding their own kids breakfast as well).

Yeah, pretty much. Their "home" lives are pretty horrible.

In your haste you obviously missed the kids were complying with the written rules all along.

What color? Afro. The entitlement culture. Why are we feeding kids breakfast, lunch and dinner?. Yes, dinner. The CPS now feeds 3 squares a day to those future criminals.

In other unimportant news there were 14 reported shootings yesterday in Obamaville.

When you depend on a government drone for your food, don’t be surprised when they take the food out of your mouths. These kids are nothing but volunteer slaves to those drones.

Yeah, well, they don't. Which means that there are a lot of little kids like these who, through no fault of their own, are stuck in a place where they have to go to school to get a real meal.

What do you propose to do about them instead?

Absolutely. But what we want and what is are two different things. They used ‘food’ to control behavior in this situation. It backfired but it is a glimpse into the mindset of the marxist/liberal.

“Good chance they will grown up thinking they are no good based on everything irrelevant”

Oh, come on. No one forms their view of themselves on the basis of not living up to one measely little rule. Self-confidence is not that fragile. Childrearing would be impossible if it were.

Following a nonsense rule or two may in fact be edifying, as it prepares you for life in a meaningless universe. Or at least apparently meaningless. If there’s a God and all that’s another matter.

You know what really grinds these kids into dust? Aside from their parents, popular culture, and their own brains, that is? Being forced to sit for six hours a day in government brain factories listening to morons recite bunk. That’s what deadens the soul. But, hey, that’s the price of free education.
