WASHINGTON President Barack Obama will deliver a commencement address at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, the White House has confirmed.
After the announcement was expected last Friday and again Monday but delayed, the winner of the Race to the Top Commencement Challenge was named to great expectations after each of the three finalists were notified.
The date of the speech has yet to be determined. In his first 27 months in office, Obama has not visited Memphis as president.
The other finalists were High Tech High International in San Diego, Calif., and Bridgeport High School in Washington state. Nearly 100,000 people participated online in ranking the schools video pitches for the presidential visit.
BTW outpaced state goals in Algebra 1 by 27 percentage points last year. It also surpassed the goal in English and raised its graduation rate from 60.4 percent in 2009 to 81.6 last spring.
Booker T. Washington is the citys oldest high school created for black students during segregation.
Booker T and the MG’s?
Hopefully he arrives just in time to get swept out to the gulf with the rest of the debris.
"There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well."
--Booker T. Washington, 1911
Sadly for Obama, there won’t be any white kids to show behind him for diversity at Booker T.
Besides, I doubt that he'd have given a commencement speech for obama.
Washington was, as I recall from studying US History, a self-reliant individual who had no interest in fanning the flames of racism.
Maybe The One could take time out from promoting himself to lower the Missippi river around Memphis.
I recall vividly when Bush II visited some Eastern High School, at the very last minute, the teacher in charge of the band at one of the schools with drew their participation, claiming that she did not want the students to show preference.
In other words, these students practiced for days, weeks in anticipation of playing for the president, and in the end this liberal twit, prohibited them from playing.
I don’t expect the same thing to happen to Barry Obama. This guy is in campaign mode. He will be stopped by his own Carter moment.
The world leaders know, that he is gutless and will vacillate esp over something like China attacking Taiwan or someone attacking Israel.
heck, they can and will bus them in.
Mississippi! I can’t believe I wrote it as “Missippi.”
Yes, unless busing starts.
Greatest instrumental band ever.
Play it, Steve.

...big deal. In my daughters public HS the graduation rate is 99.8% and 25% of seniors have a 3.7+ GPA. Over 85% have already been accepted into college. It’s all about the parents.
All city schools do is lower the bar until they get the numbers they want. Black kids don’t have a chance from the start. No Dad, entitlements, revisionist history and no understanding of economics doom them. It’s working just the way it was intended.
Bridgeport High School was one of the losers. It is a very small school in Eastern Washington. The graduating class is less than 30, and many of them are here illegally.
How ‘bout some Green Onions
A.) Wouldn’t the date he delivers the commencement address coincide with the graduation date?
B.) Has BO not been watching the news? Does he not know the place is underwater?
I think he shold go to his alma mater, that school in Indonesia.
