Thousands of energy-saving light bulbs recalled 1 hr 20 mins ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Thousands of energy-saving Telstar Products light bulbs have been voluntarily recalled for fire hazards, the government said on Tuesday.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement that some 317,000 bulbs can overheat.

Two incidents of fire were reported to the New York-based firm.

The CPSC urged consumers to take the bulbs back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recalled bulbs come in both the spiral shape and the 3-U shape and in various wattages.

This headline amuses me... especially since I recall reading one about how truckers were getting into dangerous situations because their new LED-headlights weren’t generating enough heat to keep the headlights from icing up.

So....the ‘green’ lightbulbs were causing fires (which as we all know are NOT green). heh heh. Gotta love the rony.

The wife and I went through the house over the weekend and replaced every one of the energy saving bulbs we had put in. We put incandescent bulbs in to replace them. There’s just too much info that the damn things aren’t safe.

Crappy reporting. This should have included information on where these bulbs were manufactured. And I bet it wasn’t in the US.

So think how much energy is going to be wasted while these people all drive back and forth to the store to return the recalled light bulbs.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that the greenies have come up with an inferior bulb!
Who would’ve ever thought that a bulb that cost 30 times the price of a harmless incandescent would have to be recalled? It only has mercury in it. It only cost $2000 to clean it up if it breaks.

The econuts have not figured out that we use the technology that we use because it works, and is probably the best. When the government goes along with the enviro-nazis, it is almost always worse.

Note to the kooks who still believe in AGW: Sit down and shut-up; let the adults run things again. Let the market decide instead of the politburo.

That’s scary.

Last year we received a large box of free bulbs from our local utility. Of course, someone paid for them.

They have less mercury in each than a regular fluorescent bulb, so don't have a cow!
On the other hand, I have saved, to date, about $30,000 in "clean up costs."

How? Not telling.

My daughter has one start a small fire. The base was burned black and the smell was almost impossible. Luckily their daughter was home and had enough sense to turn the bulb off and use a spray bottle of water to put the fire out.

I didn’t think we made light bulbs in the US any more. I thought they were all made in the lead prone CHINA.

One of ours blew up right after it failed. Hubby turned off the light switch, and the bulb produced acrid smoke, flames and sparks everywhere. He grabbed it with a silicone oven mitt, and ran it outside. We haven’t used them in the house since.

“On the other hand, I have saved, to date, about $30,000 in “clean up costs.”

How? Not telling.”

So just throw these things in the trash? Many people probably will, purely out of habit if for no other reason.

I received a notice from the local power company along with my recent gas and electric bill: “Broken or burned out CFLs should never go in the regular trash. Place them in approved collection sites”...

So now we’re supposed to run around disposing of old light bulbs in “approved collection sites”! Another trip for the car to make, guzzling extra gas.

And these things cast such a dim, sickly glow. We’ll all get headaches from squinting and be running to the doctor for relief, driving up health care costs.

So, if we follow the money, who among our elected officials benefits from the imposition of this absurd “energy-saving” product?

When a "green" light bulb causes your house to burn down, how much extra CO2 does that put into the atmosphere?

How many Congressmen does it take to screw-up a light bulb?

Depends on how many need to in on the take?

Votes cost money don’t they? So my question is, how many dollars slipped under the table to this? ... Ever so GREEN product???

These are made by Obammy’s Government Electric! GE had a miracle turn around when Obammy got elected for some reason... Oh yeah. They were given a captive market by the Marxist in Chief to sell their crappy light bulbs.

Generally speaking, people in California seem to accept new government programs with open arms, especially anything with the words ‘green’ or ‘smart’ attached to it. So Smart Meters seemed to be a no-brainer as they promised to make the planet greener and who doesn’t want a smart electrical meter?
