LAWMAKER: Slap parents of fat children with higher taxes...
St. Louis Today ^ | May 10, 2011 | Hannah Hess

Posted on 05/10/2011 7:46:22 PM PDT by deek69

An Illinois lawmaker says parents who have obese children should lose their state tax deduction. "It's the parents' responsibility that have obese kids," said state Sen. Shane Cultra, R-Onarga. "Take the tax deduction away for parents that have obese kids." Cultra has not introduced legislation to deny parents the $2,000 standard tax deduction, but he floated the idea Tuesday, when lawmakers took a shot at solving the state's obesity epidemic.

I have an idea.

Instead of slapping parents with taxes, why not beat some sense into politicians heads with a baseball bat?

I’ll second that. The legislature has no right telling parents how to raise their children. How ever I am against over feeding your children but that is up to the parents, but don’t go whining to the government wanting a handout for a child that is handicapped!!!!

"Liberals, no matter which party, think that making all choices and decisions of Americans subject to their "elite choices" for us (and if we resist, they merely tax us more and put companies out of business that don't play ball)should never be left in the hands of the unwashed public!

Now just a bleepin minute!

How can we hold the parents solely responsible? If the schools are seeing these corpulent kiddies coming to school and under their watch continue to pump calories into them with the school lunch program, and fail to give them adequate excercise...I think the parents should sue the government schools.

Inside of the next 25 years we will see nanny statism eat up each and every freedom we have been able to keep from the jaws of liberalism.

We will tell out grandchildren about when we could speak freely and choose what we wanted to eat.

Ah brother, long have I shared that dream as well because 1) It will be so much more satisfying than a bullet, which is too good for them and, 2) I want to watch them go apeshit banning baseball bats at wally world as a result of it.

So Sen. Brain Trust wants to force incentivize parents to monitor what their children eat? Let's see, Senator...do you think people recognize when their kids are fat?

Yes? So, if the parents of the child are OK with their kid's weight, who exactly are YOU to complain? What makes you think you know better than the child's parents?

No? If a parent somehow doesn't notice or care to notice that their kid is fat, what makes you think you telling them will help the situation? Do you somehow picture some warm, fuzzy moment when Mom and Dad hold a loving family meeting where they outline a 6-point plan for getting healthy? Get real.

I wonder if the good people of Illinois knew this guy was such an arrogant jerk when they voted for him. How IS it that elected officials think it's their job to tell other people how to live?

Fat kids don’t suffer enough at school? This anti-fat vitriol is getting scary. Next they will suggest putting fat folks into “health re-education” camps.

The elderly consume the most health care dollars, so when are the politicians going to suggest denying them care? Oh wait, that’s been done.

Using the power to tax for social engineering is not exactly conservative. Just goes to show, though, that a lot of pubbies can barely contain the statist inside. Sometimes the mask slips.
