Barack Obama to be able to text terror warnings to all US phones
The Telegraph ^ | 5/10/2011 | Alex Spillius

From next year, new phones and other hand-held devices will be required to be fitted with special chips to receive the alerts, which will also be sent by state and local authorities. Users will be able to opt out of every type of alert except those from the president, said the Federal Communications Commission.

The system will include alerts about missing children and will supersede all other phone traffic to avoid delays.

Mr Obama, who has been dubbed the "texter-in-chief" thanks to his devotion to his BlackBerry and heavy use of text messages during his 2008 campaign, may face criticism from libertarians for the compulsory nature of the presidential alerts.

But officials see the system, known as Personal Localized Alerting Network, or Plan, as a logical progression from alerting the public via radio and television.

"The lesson that was reinforced on 9/11 was the importance of getting clear and accurate information to the public during a crisis," said Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, where the scheme will be deployed first next year. It will then move to Washington and most other large cities.

He called the alerts a "quantum leap forward in using

So Obama will have a kill switch for the internet and the ability to disrupt, with continuous alerts, cell phone communication for the US. Sweet.

In simple terms the cell grid will be gridlocked with government alerts. No Thanks! That is not why I have cell service nor pay a bill for.

Every time the geniuses in the Federal Government come up with a 'new idea', it costs me a fricking mint and the service gets worse. I could hit towers 40 miles away with a pole and a directional antenna with my analog bag phone.

Gotta switch to digital...$500.00 later I have a service that works about half as well beyond the end of the sidewalk...Phone company buyout disrupts my secondary phone service and I get a week to use up the 800 minutes and year's service before that phone is dead. Now, the phone company who bought out my primary cellular provider (by Federal mandate the other provider here couldn't buy them out and have twice as many towers in a very rural area because that would mean a monopoly) has changed styles of phones, and off to the bloody races again with new equipment and a host of 'features' I don't want (I just want a phone that works!).

Now this....If I didn't need one for work, I wouldn't have one.

The question I have is, what page of which of half a dozen 2,500-page bills passed in the 111th Congress authorized this?

Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Also, I don't suppose these chips have any other, shall we say, dual purpose?

The potential for political abuse is monumental. Who here doesn't believe Obama won't piously remind everyone with a crackberry to go vote?

I grow weary of it all.

Does anyone seriously believe a rollback to better things is possible anymore?

I think one of the most telling signs of the times was the changeover from “personnel departments” to “human resources”.

That put people on the same level with everything else, whether it is fuel, raw materials, energy, whatever ... people are just another resource.

That dehumanizing change comports with the gradual loss of citizenship evident when we have become a “population” rather than the citizens of our nation. Bacteria can “populate” a petri dish, wildlife “populate” a habitat, one can “populate” a spreadsheet with numbers.

A resource is something to be used for the benefit of the owner. A population must be managed.

This might sound like quibbling, but it is a way of looking at people that is different than thinking of them a citizens of a republic. Citizenship means something, take the Apostle Paul for example, the Roman governor was going to scourge him until Paul appealed to Cesar as a Roman Citizen. Then the governor totally changed his attitude towards Paul, and his behavior. Citizenship is special, it means something, it carries rights and privileges.

But being part of a population looked upon as just another resource is different.

This cell phone thing is just another way to manage the human resources that populate the country. I don't like it.

One other thing - all this “connected” stuff doesn’t impress me at all. Networked, connected, in the cloud - bah humbug!

Ubama doesn't need legislation. A simple royal decree will do the trick.

"The #ing commies know no limits."

Barak Hussein bin Obama al-Kenyata's Health and Human Services commissar is drafting a regulation for personal identification: SS numbers will be tattoo'd to the left forearm.

The day is coming when mentioning the name of your nation will be a crime. Any references to personal origin or geography will be by trading sector grid coordinates only.

And the poor will then be awarded the right to vote via text, - just like they do on American Idol.

Oh yes, one more thing:

The complaints about police overuse of force - that’s really about us no longer being “citizens” but a “population”.

Citizens have dignity and standing and rights. And to infringe upon that is an egregious wrong that must be addressed.

But a population is a resource must be managed. That means “policed”. No standing, no dignity, no rights, all that is subsumed into the states need to manage its population. We’re seeing one example in the airport screening lines.

This cell phone thing is just a run up to bigger better management of the “population”. After all our rulers are good managers that want to conserve and wisely use the “human resources” that populate their country.

I think it’s an infringement to arrogate the power to preempt phone traffic, it’s just another way to “reach out and touch someone”.

Ok, no more, I’ve only had one cup of coffee...

"the changeover from “personnel departments” to “human resources”. "

How about "communeity" in place of "neighborhood"? As in, "Give back (socialism) to your communeity."

No more cities or towns. You live in a communeity.
