The White House is standing behind its decision to welcome rapper Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., AKA “Common,” to Washington, D.C. Wednesday night amidst controversy over the hip hop artist’s lyrics which include support for violence against cops and former President George W. Bush.
“The president opposes those kinds of lyrics,” said Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary.
Despite that opposition, Carney indicated that Common would still be welcome at “An Evening of Poetry at the White House” tonight.
“He’s known as a socially conscious hip hop artist or rapper, who in fact, has done, a lot of good things,” offered Carney. “You can oppose some of what he’s done and appreciate some of the other things he’s done.”

If the White House opposes cop killing lyrics, then they'd disinvite this cockroach from the People's House. You can't have it both ways. And by the way, what exactly has this low life done that we need to appreciate? Denigrating our culture? Furthering the culture of violence and hatred in minority communities? Coarsening our national discourse?

I keep thinking if this were G.W. and he had a racist entertainer at the Whitey House - the media, the RATS would be going bananas, Hell I remember when G. W. was going to speak at Bob Jones University - you would think the way the media reacted he was attending a KKK rally.

If GWB had Lee Greenwood at the WH singing “God Bless the USA” the Democrat/Progressive/Socialist Party-media would be having a major fit.
One of the worst insults that my grandmother could hurl at someone was to say that they were, “common”. Methinks this rapper is aptly named.
If I decide to rob a bank tomorrow I’m using this defense. The bank robbing will not represent all of my work, most of which is socially conscious.
