A pilot buddy of mine flew out from GA early that year for the races and we were in contact and they (race officials) didn’t know at first what they were going to do...some other friends drove down from Nor Cal who were sharing the condo with me in Tahoe and went anyway...they just played golf instead..I think I was the only one who didn’t go that year of all who were meeting there. Reno Air Races for years was a meeting point for friends from all over...have lots of great memories ...like the time we all piled in a friend’s Beech 18 to go to the races and got in a mountain wave/severe turbulence situation over the Sierras at night coming home...very memorable!!...:oP

Very nice! I always wanted to get a pilots license but never had the time or money at the same time. (Had the money but no time, had the time but no money) So I took up hanggliding and flew for 25 years and 1600+ logged hours.

Hit 50, got married, now I choose R/C model planes instead.

The D-18 is another favorite, I have a 7 foot span kit of one in my “to-build” pile... I’ll get to it one of these days. I plan to do it up in Frank Talman’s Beech colors in the movie, “Its a Mad, Mad, Mad... Mad World”. I have a V-35 kit that will be in the same colors. (It’s in the movie as well)

I can relate...but I went the reverse ...quit R/C airplanes to focus on full size...matter of fact I have a 1/4 scale Sig Cub on floats with a Saito 120 4-stroke for sale if you know anyone interested..:oP

I was all set to build a Van’s RV-9A when I was in Galena, Alaska. I ordered all the pre-build material, got permission from the local high school to use their hangar space and was all set to pull the trigger when I was notified I was being laid off.

It just wasn’t meant to be for me to be an airplane driver...:-(

Sorry to keep hijacking the thread but figure the original poster won’t mind the BTTTs. ;^)

Frank Talman’s Beech colors in the movie, “Its a Mad, Mad, Mad... Mad World”

Remember that hilarious bit in the Beech when Jim Backus went in the back to make an Old Fashioned at the bar...and Buddy Hackett asked "what if something goes wrong?"...Jim replied: "what could go wrong with an Old Fashioned?"...LOLOL!!! :oP

(You know they totaled that Beech flying it through that billboard?)

I have a book somewhere that described the stunt. I knew it was damaged significantly but didn't know it was totalled! I love that movie.

A friend knew somebody connected to Tall-Mantz Aviation...said it was so badly beat up it was scrapped...but then my airplane was a total at one time...so it could be back on the line for all I know now..:oP

I don't like the name, In ‘n’ out. Sounds perverted.

I've seen plenty of food purveyors come from Cali and do poorly in Texas.

Besides we have so many good burger places in and around Austin, it's hard to choose.

Try a burger at the Varsity in Atlanta, GA.

Walk me a pair of steaks and drop some rings...

The other day someone on FR was kind enough to give me directions to an In ‘N Out Burger off of I35 on the north side of Dallas. I can’t find the post again. Can anyone direct me? We will be going north on I35 on Thursday and I’d like to stop and give it a try. thanks.
