Sports anchor fired after backing true marriage

One of Canada’s leading TV sports broadcasters fired one of its anchors Wednesday after he voiced support for true marriage on Twitter.

Damian Goddard, the now-former host of “Connected” on Rogers Sportsnet, had tweeted his support of Burlington hockey agent Todd Reynolds, who created a stir this week when he criticized New York Rangers hockey star Sean Avery for shooting a TV ad backing gay “marriage.”

“I completely and wholeheartedly support Todd Reynolds and his support for the traditional and TRUE meaning of marriage,” wrote Goddard on May 10th. He also voiced support for U.S. Olympic gold medalist Peter Vidmar, who resigned as chef de mission for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team after homosexual activists created a controversy over his support for true marriage.

Sportsnet had distanced themselves from the comments on their own Twitter account. They announced Wednesday that Goddard had been fired and did not specify the reasons.

“Mr. Goddard was a freelance contractor and in recent weeks it had become clear that he is not the right fit for our organization,” said Sportsnet spokesman Dave Rashford in a statement.

Nevertheless, Goddard is standing by the comments. “In terms of what I said, I stand by it,” he told the Toronto Star. “I’m a devout Roman Catholic. It’s not about hate at all.”

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Canada .... you ought to be ashamed.

And the new "conservative" /sarcasm government will do nothing to change it.

The big thing here is, the guy admitted to his beliefs, and bit the bullet by getting fired. I at least accept him doing that as the correct thing. As for the gymnast, it is disappointing that such a great athlete is gone from our team effort.

And suppression of free speech, is among the biggest steps on the road to communism.

Why do gay people hate heterosexuals?

Why are gay people afraid of our marriage traditions?

Why do some in the media support gay hatred of the rest of us?

You're danged right it's a daily occurrance.

Gold medalist resigns, thanks to pro-'gay' criticism

Prove it.

Do Canadians not have freedom of speech?

In too many ways, it appears they do not. IIRC you can be prosecuted for 'hate speech' in Canada.

Never fear, though. It's coming soon to an America near you.

I’d be delighted to be proven wrong but Harpsichord already stated that legal abortion would not come up for review under his leadership.

IMHO freedom of speech has more Canadian support than the pro-life position.

Do Canadians not have freedom of speech?

You need to rephrase the question and insert "Christian". Then, as for the answer, no.......

Nope. There is no "First Amendment" in Canada.

They also have Human Rights tribunals... but look out most states are getting those as well. Canada is just a decade or so ahead of us.

Words mean things. And "censorship" is when the government suppresses free speech.

Those other cases you cited are simply "suppression of free speech".

Yep ... words mean things.

More evidence that the Gaystapo runs the media. This is why cowards like Rush, Beck, Hannity, etc. don’t ever dare criticize the butt-sex agenda.

Since the executive branch has so much power, all the more reason for all of us to get out next year and vote Obama out and a decent conservative into office. No more sitting home and sulking next year.

Many countries have drunk the kool aid of socialism because they want the money benefits, thinking that somehow they are getting things for free. But with the bribes come all of the socialist agenda which is very much interested in controlling human beings as if they are guinea pigs to the socialist elites. Socialism has its roots going way back to the French Revolution which was anti-God and radical in its attempt to turn human society upside down.

"Definition of CENSORSHIP" 1 a : the institution, system, or practice of censoring b : the actions or practices of censors; especially : censorial control exercised repressively

"Definition of CENSOR"

transitive verb : to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable ; also : to suppress or delete as objectionable

________________________________

Don't see anything in there about "government".

For that matter, look at one of the examples Merriam's uses:

"Examples of CENSOR

The station censored her speech before broadcasting it.
