George W. Bush Gives First Public Reaction to Osama Bin Laden Death
Former President George W. Bush made his first candid public comments on the killing of Osama bin Laden during an appearance Wednesday at a conference of hedge fund managers in Las Vegas.
"I was eating souffle at Rise Restaurant with Laura and two buddies," Bush said when asked what he was doing when he received the call from President Obama, according to an ABC News contributor who attended the event.
"I excused myself and went home to take the call," Bush said. "Obama simply said 'Osama Bin Laden is dead.'"
Bush said Obama described in detail the secret mission to raid bin Laden's Pakistani compound and the decision he made to put the plan into motion. He told Obama, "Good call."
The 43rd president and man who initiated the hunt for bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks has shied from the spotlight since news broke nearly two weeks ago. Bush has declined interview requests and Obama's invitation to join him at Ground Zero to meet with victims' families and first responders four days after the raid.
But appearing before the crowd of 1,800 at the glitzy Bellagio resort and casino, Bush appeared light-h earted and relaxed in talking about bin Laden's death.

At least it wasn’t quiche. :-)
Real men aren’t afraid to eat souffle.
“I was eating souffle at Rise Restaurant with Laura and two buddies,” Yep them Bushes are TRUE Texans aren’t they. Boy did WE get suckered.
You’re only kidding yourself.
What PR wizbang thought it was a good idea to reference “souffle” with Bid Laden’s capture.
Once again, Bush aligns himself with losers. This time a PR flunky.
Your should have said, “Biscuits and gravy.” Now the story is about what he eats rather than the very classy way he has comported himself after his service to the country.
Plouffe
Hey, it could have been barbequed souffle! :0)
Ok, I am not getting this. WTH is wrong with souffle?
Would you have rather they referenced where he was and what he was reading on 9/11?
Same problem he had as president - communication.
Too much detail about unneeded, insignificant crap, not enough of the meat of the message. One, unscripted moment on top of a fire truck was magic, too much of the communication during the remaining time in office was just blather.
Couldn’t he have faked it and said barbeque or something more manly?
Once again, Bush aligns himself with losers. This time a PR flunky.
Unlike any liberal, Bush would not stop to think up a lie to make himself look good, and simply blurt out the truth.
You know from the left we’ll get a bunch of comments about the food instead of the substance, probably some sort of class warfare comments they are good for. (by the way, you should see some of the souffle’s at Rise No.1. They have a BBQ souffle that you would kill for.)
Instead of "a way" didn't President Bush say, "THE way?"
President Bush's insistence on showing the muslim world the benefits of freedom is what will win the war.
He probably did have the BBQ souffle. It’s on the menu.
Maybe it was shoo fly pie?
