Actually, Stalin believed that - he felt that the US and Britian wanted Hitler to damage the USSR as much as possible and drug their heels on a European invasion. He might have been right.

Ironic, since there is a school of thought that believes Stalin intended to let the Axis and Allies chew each other up and then the Reds would sweep up the pieces. That plan went out the window with Operation Barbarossa.

It’s too bad that he wasn’t entirely right, and the US and UK had just let Hitler and Stalin duke it out.
