State Farm to offer same-sex benefits

BLOOMINGTON (AP) - State Farm Insurance Cos. said Friday it will begin offering health care and other benefits to legally recognized same-sex partners of its employees, a response to an Illinois law that will soon let gay and lesbian couples enter into civil unions.
The eligibility changes for the Bloomington-based insurer's group health and welfare plans affect all employees, retirees, agents and agent staff. They would be able to enroll a "legally recognized" same-sex spouse, civil union partner, or domestic partner in benefits for the first time, said State Farm spokesman Phil Supple.
He said "legally recognized relationship" is defined as: same-sex marriage, which is allowed in some states; same-sex or opposite-sex civil unions; domestic partnerships; or a substantially similar legal relationship.
State Farm has more than 68,000 employees, including 15,100 in the Twin Cities.

I’ve been a State Farm customer for what seems like forever. Guess it’s time to look around at some other companies.

Probably all of the other insurance companies will be rolling over and doing the same thing soon, so it will not matter anyway.
Yep it is time. If enough people switch insurance; maybe the other companies will get the message.
a lot of companies are doing this. Travellers Insurance already does.

I learned yesterday that you have ‘evolving’ views on marriage. Just so I am in full understanding, you are saying you no longer believe that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. If it is now open to interruption then what is it?

constitution guarantees equal protection under the law. Give us a
marriage license!”

“Marry yourself?? What do you mean?”
“Well, my psychiatrist says I have a dual personality, so I want to
marry the two together. Maybe I can file a joint income-tax return.”
