With the death of Osama, it is time for America to declare victory on the War on Terrorism. The main aim of the war on terrorism was to destroy Al Qaeda and kill Osama, just as World War Two aimed to destroy the Nazis and kill Hitler. Of course, mopping up operations should be carried out, to capture and kill remnants of Al Qaeda. But we do not want to see another endless war, similar to the so-called war on drugs, which will never come to an end.
The war on terrorism was used as an excuse to take away the civil liberties of the American people. Conservatives are usually firm defenders of the constitution. But under the Bush 43 administration, they were willing to ditch civil liberties, in order to feel safer. Conservatives were willing to tolerate government surveillance to a greater extent than at any time in American history. The Patriot Act had many unconstitutional provisions. Lots of government workers were hired to snoop on Americans.
Now that those unconstitutional powers are in the hands of Obama and his socialist crowd, some conservatives are having a hard time staying awake at night. It is time to stop harrassing little old ladies with tweezers, when they attempt to board planes in our airports.
Not until we rid ourselves of the Muslim in the White House.

There is NO end to the War on Terror, until every last terrorist is dead.
However, I do agree with you that the so-called “safety measures” implemented by our government, such as molesting travelers, is NOT the way to keep us safe. The problem is that the government is NOT using one of the most important available tools: PROFILING.
President Bush and Rumsfeld said at the time that they are prosecuting the War on Terror to kill terrorists “over there, BEFORE they have a chance to come and kill us over here”.
We have troops all over the world. Korea has “Truce” status.
What about these groups?

Receiving mortar fire during an overnight mission, his unit called for a 155mm howitzer illumination round to be fired to reveal the enemy’s location. The request was rejected “on the grounds that it may cause collateral damage.” The NCO says that the only thing that comes down from an illumination round is a canister, and the likelihood of it hitting someone or something was akin to that of being struck by lightning.
Returning from a mission, his unit took casualties from an improvised explosive device that the unit knew had been placed no more than an hour earlier. “There were villagers laughing at the U.S. casualties” and “two suspicious individuals were seen fleeing the scene and entering a home.” U.S. forces “are no longer allowed to search homes without Afghan National Security Forces personnel present.” But when his unit asked Afghan police to search the house, the police refused on the grounds that the people in the house “are good people.”
On another mission, some Afghan adults ran off with their children immediately before the NCO’s unit came under heavy small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), and the unit asked for artillery fire on the enemy position. The response was a question: Where is the nearest civilian structure? “Judging distances,” the NCO writes dryly, “can be difficult when bullets and RPGs are flying over your head.” When the artillery support was denied because of fear of collateral damage, the unit asked for a “smoke mission” — like an illumination round; only the canister falls to earth — “to conceal our movement as we planned to flank and destroy the enemy.” This request was granted — but because of fear of collateral damage, the round was deliberately fired one kilometer off the requested site, making “the smoke mission useless and leaving us to fend for ourselves.”

You can, I guess, ‘declare the end of the war on terrorism’, if that’s what floats your boat - I’m not so sure the terrorists would agree to go along, though....
Killing Osama, however justified and emotionally satisfying, will have no real effect on AQ, et. al., unless you’re living in a 1930’s “Jungle Jim” movie (shoot the cheif or the medicine man and the tribe quits and runs away...) instead of fighting a sophisticated force which comes complete with modern conveniences like chains-of-command and succession plans...

America has been fighting terrorism, in one form or another, since the 1960s. America also led an effort to isolate Iran and Hezbollah in the 1980s. We all remember Reagan’s message to Abu Nidal and other terrorists: “you can run, but you cannot hide”.
But America managed to fight terrorism effectively, without a huge bureaucracy, that is limiting the rights of Americans and driving them to bankruptcy.
We can declare victory in the war we began on 9-11. But we can continue to fight terrorism like we have always fought them before 9-11. Americans need to free themselves from the huge government bureaucracy that has been placed on their shoulders.
Remember that World War Two was not a “war on fascism”. It was a war on Hitler and Mussolini. After the war, fascist governments remained in office in Spain and Portugal. Those governments were not a threat to America. A war on terrorism without any end in sight, will mean that Americans will permanently lose privacy rights, and other fundamental constitutional rights. Do you want your grandchildren to be groped at airports 50 years from today, in a war that will have no end?
Remove every angry Mussie from our soil.
Then declare victory.
No doubt. Just look at the mess Bush created. Whole new huge agencies. TSA DHS etc. Awful. I say get the hell out of the ME and root em out here. They are in the Mosques in plain view.
Declaring that the war on terror is over because OBL is dead is akin to declaring that murder, rape, drunk driving, theft, etc. shouldn’t be investigated and prosecuted because they’re all illegal and should therefore never occur.

We can blow money on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and you-name-it-stan until our printing presses run dry, but at this rate, those days aren't far off. We're not fighting in a serious manner, and there's no chance we're going. We could fight as we are for another 50 years and not change a thing.
We'll run out of money long before the world runs out of jihad.

Well, let’s pull out of the three countries we are sort of at war with, first. It’s not like we can win, meaning change the hearts and minds of those in the countries.
