Boehner says ready to cut budget deal today
Reuters/Yahoo ^ | 5/16/11

House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner on Sunday said he is ready to cut a deal on raising the debt limit if only President Barack Obama would get serious about spending cuts.

Obama warned that congressional failure to raise the debt limit could lead to a worse financial crisis than 2008-09 and urged that debate stay separate from spending cuts.

Both sides stuck to their well-staked out positions, showing little evidence of movement.

Boehner and fellow Republicans warned of dire consequences to the economy if the debt limit is not linked to spending cuts and deficit reduction.

"I'm ready to cut the deal today. You know, we don't have to wait until the 11th hour," Boehner said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

He questioned whether Obama was serious about deficit reduction. "He's talking about it. But I'm not seeing real action yet," Boehner said.

The Treasury Department is expected to hit its $14.3 trillion borrowing limit on Monday but says it can stave off default until August 2 by drawing on other sources of money to pay its bills. That timetable has created a sense in Washington that any political deal may be far off.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke have warned that failure to raise the debt limit could hamper the fragile U.S. economy, which is making a slow and painful recovery from the 2007-2009 downturn, with a 9 percent unemployment rate.

Would someone here please post a link to the actual Republican Party platform planks? Or...if they have the actual facts, simple present them here.
I’ve looked all over the place and cannot find them.

Oh...I’ve seen lots and lots of opinion on what they “are” or at least should be, but I’ve never seen the actual Party Platform list.

Thanks....in advance

I saw a clip on Fox this morning about the interview with Boehner. Okay, the man was laughing like a nut-job. I wish to heck the Republicans can actually address true national policies that affect OUR lives with some dignity and seriousness. I am truly beginning to think Boner has a few screws loose.

The reason Obama isn’t serious is because he knows the GOP will continue to debate itself and ultimately cave in. I’m tired of all this GOP posturing on the talk shows.

There comes a point in time where compromise is unacceptable. We are broke. Why then do we waste time with people who get voted in to do one thing and cowar? Are they being blackmailed or what?????? The stench of politicians is getting to me.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke have warned that failure to raise the debt limit could hamper the fragile U.S. economy,

About that, he's right. Ending deficit spending will cause enough of a reduction in GDP to meet the formal economic definition of "Depression".

However, failure to get spending under control in the near-term (three years or less) will make us envy Weimar Germany.

Boner is worthless. We are in for another massive cave-in to the idiot who's in our White House.

We will continue providing cash to Planned Predators while they ruthlessly slaughter unborn and newborn babies, we'll continue to fund the lefty playground called NPR, and we'll continue to fund anything else that that skinny illegal alien wants. And Boner will concede.

My God! When will all this end?

As a last ditch effort; Boehner will go to Obozo in tears. When that doesn’t work he will submit.

I never trusted this guy; he can’t even fake being tough.

I remember how obamma pulled the wool over the Republicans eyes during last recent showdown, then proceeded to tell them at the bill signing he was not going to abide by their silly czar rules that they had put into that bill. obamma stuck his tongue out at the Pubs!

The Pubs are clueless, wimpy, and not to be trusted.

Boehner will cave, just watch it. He will claim victory for good press, but ultimately will be on the losing side.

A crisis is being created. BO will agree to some cuts, because the country is being held hostage (sarcasm), the debt will be raised, the economy will tank (double dip well on its way already), Republicans will be blamed (they cut too much), BO will be elected for another 4 years. Why you ask?? The truth does not get out to the people because no one wants to tell the truth, the media won’t convey it anyway, and the public doesn’t want to face what would need to be done to fix our economy. Game, set, match, America goes down.

GOD’S SPEED ENDEAVOUR

The Pubs get snookered every time they make an agreement with the arrogant bastard and his minions. Recall the last deal where the administration said it was agreeing to approx 355 billion reduction. After the deal was done, it was reported it was actually a cut in the hundred million range

Pubs should be pounding the administration daily to put the burden back on the administration to STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE! and come up with a plan to get the budget under control by cutting spending.

Frugal use of Air Force One would be a small symbolic gesture to start

I don’t want a deal. I don’t want the debt limit increased. period. If spending cuts don’t get us to a balanced budget, we haven’t cut enough spending and we need to cut more. This government is not spending a dime on anything that I give a damn about. cut deep and cut hard.
