Boehner says ready to cut budget deal today
Reuters/Yahoo ^ | 5/16/11

House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner on Sunday said he is ready to cut a deal on raising the debt limit if only President Barack Obama would get serious about spending cuts.

Obama warned that congressional failure to raise the debt limit could lead to a worse financial crisis than 2008-09 and urged that debate stay separate from spending cuts.

Both sides stuck to their well-staked out positions, showing little evidence of movement.

Boehner and fellow Republicans warned of dire consequences to the economy if the debt limit is not linked to spending cuts and deficit reduction.

"I'm ready to cut the deal today. You know, we don't have to wait until the 11th hour," Boehner said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

He questioned whether Obama was serious about deficit reduction. "He's talking about it. But I'm not seeing real action yet," Boehner said.

The Treasury Department is expected to hit its $14.3 trillion borrowing limit on Monday but says it can stave off default until August 2 by drawing on other sources of money to pay its bills. That timetable has created a sense in Washington that any political deal may be far off.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke have warned that failure to raise the debt limit could hamper the fragile U.S. economy, which is making a slow and painful recovery from the 2007-2009 downturn, with a 9 percent unemployment rate.

Let’s roll!” has an entirely different meaning to Boehner than it does to most people.

Why is he even talking about this? Put the heat on the Senate dims for their lack of a budget. That is what the democrats would do to a Republican senate who had gone 700 days without a budget. There should be a clear message attack on barry and the dims right now. THEY ARE UNSERIOUS ABOUT THE DEBT LIMIT/DEFICIT/ETC.

Boner has crying down to a “fine art.” Thank God our troops aren’t in Afganistan crying like the eunuch playing Speaker.

IMO, every crying session that Boner exhibits, disgraces our nation and disgraces our heritage. Makes me want to throw up!

We have a government of spineless, gutless wimps on one side and lying, corrupt thieves on the other side. We’re represented by the dregs of society. No wonder we’re being flushed down the toilet bowl!

It don’t do a damn bit of good to know the Republican Platform. They say one thein and then do another, namely, what ever the main stream media and/or Democrat Party tell them to do. A/L/a one Johm Mc Cain, the sweetheart of Arizona and many on this forum and Lindsey Graham, the Queen of South Carolina, to name two.

Obama warned that congressional failure to raise the debt limit could lead to a worse financial crisis than 2008-09 and urged that debate stay separate from spending cuts.

(There's your answer Boehner)

Both sides stuck to their well-staked out positions, showing little evidence of movement. (Boehner will blink. Obama has Pelosi eyes.)

Boehner and fellow Republicans warned of dire consequences to the economy if the debt limit is not linked to spending cuts and deficit reduction.

The Treasury Department is expected to hit its $14.3 trillion borrowing limit on Monday but says it can stave off default until August 2 by drawing on other sources of money to pay its bills.

This may be a temporary solution if the "other sources" consist of excesses of government spending, ie fat, waste, corruption and other liberal fiascoes.

If Boehner stays his scared little compromising self, he will cave.

Under no circumstances should the debt ceiling be raised.

And spending needs to be cut drastically.

While your words contain a good deal of sense, I'm not reading the platform to find out if professional republican politicians actually adhere to it.

Instead, I'm reading it (and the democrat one too) to find out how they each compare with where I actually stand on the issues.

Doing this helps me look at where I stand on the political spectrum, and if a third party actually starts, where I would like to see it on that same spectrum.

Just a few of many examples
1. Abortion
2. Use of the US Military,
3. US Debt,
4. Federal Gov't's role in supporting a polyglot nation of mixed races, beliefs, social strata, etc.
5. Illegal aliens/migrants
6. Energy and man influenced climate change,
7. Fed's role in "creating jobs",
8. Taxation (in all it's many forms and guises),
9. Education,
10. Self-help vs handout.

These really are just a few....and I know where I - internally - stand on them. So now, I'm going to dig deep on these and many others and find out where the two predominate parties stand on them.

Just keeping a very old mind active.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any recovery from this. In fact, I see worse off than this. I am SOOO sick of being told by the media or talking pundits, that we are in recovery. NO, we are NOT! We are in recession STILL!! When unemployment continues at 9% (or in reality, higher, more like 15%)...we are NOT in recovery.

However, failure to get spending under control in the near-term (three years or less) will make us envy Weimar Germany.

Our cities will be bombed out ruins, half of our young men will be dead, our indutries will be in shambles, our money worthless, our leaders on trial for war crimes and the Russians will control a third of our territory?

All debate about deals is irrelevant. The main question is whether Boehner will breakdown and weep or not. If he breaks down, for how long and how many buckets of tears?

The MSM and Obama Drones are spinning like crazy. They know that higher gas and food prices will crater the economy again. They want to blame it on Republicans.

Republican leadership needs to be HAMMERING Obie daily. The CRASH is coming and he needs to take full responsibility for his disastrous policies.

Right now the only difference between the two is a few million dollars cut from “$100 billion in cuts Boehner demanded”, that went to $38 billion which in reality was a few hundred million.

A deal will be cut where we capitulate, come out and claim victory for a pittance, and the tax/borrow and spending will continue unabated.

Boehner should agree to meet with Obama, then send Allen West in his place. The beatdown that West would give Obama would be worthy of a pay-per-view event.

Bring it. I’m tired of worrying about it, tired of talking about it, and tired of debating the inevitable. So, bring it and let We the People bear the brunt of your failure government.

For it is the only way to free ourselves from what is the failure of progressive America.

Give, We the People, the needed lesson in tough love. Let those who have not worked in generations, learn the value of the almighty dollar. Let them come to understand the callouses on their hands will reflect the amount of food on their table, their honest cleverness and brightness of their minds to shelter them, and their need to propel their desires.

It is time to ‘bring it.’ We’ve had three years to prepare for this obvious failure of government. Some have been as industrious as ants preparing for the long winter, others have been like hummingbirds sucking up nectar making ready for migration and the rest have behaved like the grasshopper fiddling in the field.

We will go forward into this crisis either now or a few months from now, but America will come out better and stronger on the other side.

So, bring it. May God Bless all those who already know or have learned to help themselves and may His mercies be upon the rest of America.
