Sanchez unveils bill to allow women in combat
Orange County Register ^ | 5/16/2011 | Martin Wisckol

A bill that would end the ban on military women fighting in combat has been introduced by Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana.

“In actuality, this bill would officially recognize what is already happening on the battlefield – the fact that our military women are fighting in combat every day, all over the world,” Sanchez, the ranking female member on the House Armed Services Committee, said in a news release.

Me and an old Vietnam Colonel chatted about this over the weekend. We both agreed that those who have never served are attempting to make an organization designed to kill people and break things politically correct.

Women are not equal to men in terms of physical ability. Plus you need to factor in group cohesion...plus all the new “training” to make sure the guys aren’t mean to the gals.

Women do not belong in the armed services unless it is a specific branch designed just for them, like the WAVES or the WACs. To place a female in an organized fighting unit alongside men is to simply imitate what communists/socialists have been doing for decades. Their purpose was to erode gender differences in order to discredit the Judeo/Christian bedrock of Western society. For most assuredly, the family unit was the foundation of our culture for centuries. In order for these godless people to destroy our society they infiltrated the public square encouraging every opportunity to fracture the family. Rock music, consumerism, feminism, homosexuality- all of these have affected the culture to the extent that it is almost unrecognizable today. Slowly but surely this has been occurring since the Second World War .It is a deliberate affront to Christianity and was meant to be so by leftist atheists who control so much of the ideology in our country today.

Does this mean women in the infantry? Ladies, I don’t mean to offend but I have come in contact with few if any women who can hike a 60 pound pack 20 miles. Quite frankly my ideal woman wouldn’t be able to do this. If that makes me sexist, so be it. However, I (like Rush Limbaugh) live in Litterolville (I love this line). Therefore I realize that men and women are different. No man is ever going to give birth and the vast, vast majority of women are never going to be bench pressing 200 pounds.

The physical requiremnts of Soldiers and Marines on the front line jobs of infantry, reconissance, artillery etc... preclude the vast majority of women. It’s silly to even debate this.

First thing we need to do is take this blithering idiot Sanchez to Afghanistan, put a helmet on her head, a flak jacket on her, and a rifle in her hands. Then, she gets to walk point into a mine field.

KA-BOOM!

Hasn’t been mentioned yet, but this could be stealth legislation aimed at dangling citizenship as an enticement for military service since many illegal aliens from mexico are women.

There was a scene in Full Metal Jacket where an enemy sniper had wounded a squad member out in the middle of a courtyard. As the soldier lay there screaming in pain, others in the squad couldn’t stand it and tried to rescue their buddy. Each time one of them tried to get to the wounded member, the sniper would take them out. Imagine that squad member being a female soldier out there screaming in agony. The one thing about this scene, was that the sniper was female, but she was defending what she felt was her homeland.

Women are NOT EQUAL on the battlefield.
Loretta Sanchez should shut her trap and go back to the kitchen and cook dinner for her husband.
Granted women can die with equality, but if you are in hand to hand combat or on a stealth mission where you have to overcome an enemy soldier, you can’t do it in a uniform that’s a petite size. Women lack the upper body strength for serious combat.

Exactly.

People need to read about the Okinawa campaign in WW II, and the tremendous physical effort required by soldiers and Marines to secure that island hill by hill. Pay special attention to the battles (plural) to take Sugar Loaf Hill.

While in VN, I served with one guy from Mexico and two guys from Canada.
I always assumed they did it just for the adventure, but IIRC, they were also eligible for US citizenship once they finished their enlistments.
I have no problem with that ... and more so if someone has done a tour in combat.

I’ve been on DOZENS of speed and forced marches where the men were FORCED to pick up the womens’ loads. On the five-mile speed march, the women dropped their gear less than 1/2 mile from the start and the rest of us picked up their rifles and slung their ruck between two of us. At the end, the women hurried to pick up their gear and then rant to the front of the line, sometimes crossing first.

To be fair, there were women soldiers who wanted nothing to do with this. Some were admin and some were nurses, who only wanted to serve and hand no delusions about being men. Then there where the types that wanted all the perks with none of the responsibility. That never worked out well.

There are certainly reasonable accomodations for women serving in support roles. Certainly, a nurse should not be subject to the same phyiscal standards of a grunt or gunner, and their service can be just as rewarding and appreciated.

Lead the way onto the battlefield, General Loretta Sanchez
a wise latina indeed

sarc

Where women are capable of direct enemy engagement, they already are assigned

And where women are not now assigned, is better they not be, due to physical limitations

Equality begins and ends where humans are or are not capable of carrying full combat gear plus a 150 pound comrade to safety and fighting as they do so

"The one thing about this scene, was that the sniper was female, but she was defending what she felt was her homeland."

I'm sure a woman can pick up a rifle and with proper instruction can fire it as good or better than any man. Just as in that movie. However, firing the rifle is a small part of a military sipers job. Most women cannot do all of the rest of the things required of snipers. That's the problem.

I agree. I’ve been on humps where we had to carry and drag male Marines to the finish line. I can only imagine what it must be like to be on a hump with women. At least the ones I’ve been on. I can’t see many women humping up Mt. Fuji in Japan, that’s for sure.

I also agree about women not being subject to the same physical standards or requirements of men. It’s just a ridiculous idea because overall, women are not as strong as men. It’s just a fact that you can’t get around. People like Congresswoman Sanchez will just have to accept that as an immutable law of nature. I’ve gotten over the fact that I can’t have a baby. She needs to move on as well...

I once read a quote, attributed to an anonymous Marine General (of course):

“Any system that seeks to judge both sexes by the same standard can only victimize one and shortchange the other.”

I like.

Our daughter is a solid water polo player, and I've witnessed some amazing physical prowess from her and her team. I've also seen the #1 high school state champs (boys) play, and it's a totally (and I mean totally) different ball game. Now some colleges (because water polo isn't yet a big draw) have coed teams (Bradley in Illinois is one), and the game is a total joke. The boys can't play at full force (or they'd kill the girls), and the girls can't keep up with the boys anyway, so the game becomes impossible to watch/enjoy because neither boys nor girls can shine.

P.S. And it is not without good reason that a man was sent in to help Jesus carry His Cross, while the women wept and prayed.

"There are certainly reasonable accomodations for women serving in support roles."

I was lucky enough to have worn both combat arms (Armor) and combat support (MP) brass on my collar during my Army career and my perspective has been forged thusly. I would NEVER want a female serving in a tank crew. As for MP operations where there is significant interaction with host nation civilians, third country nationals, etc., female soldiers are invaluable.

“All societies are based on rules to protect pregnant women and young children. All else is surplusage, excrescence, adornment, luxury, or folly, which can — and must — be dumped in emergency to preserve this prime function. As racial survival is the only universal morality, no other basic is possible. Attempts to formulate a “perfect society” on any foundation other than “Women and children first!” is not only witless, it is automatically genocidal.” - R.A.Heinlein

I was once ordered to let a female communications soldier ‘help out’ with the gun crew in a ‘worst case scenario’ demonstration.

a 105lb female lifting a 90lb artillery shell and maneuvering it into the breech?

Even for a man, it’s already a worst case and they’ve made it worser.

This is just more yammering about too many Combat Arms Officers being promoted to general. I guarantee you, make 60% of the generals female, and this argument goes away. They’re worried about rank, not combat capability.

On the 155 I would handle one of the over 200 pound spades entirely on my own, that freed up an extra man for digging the holes for the spade or some other function, this was invaluable for ‘quick fires’, digging holes, 93 pound rounds, removing and maneuvering a 13,000 pound gun for set up, women don’t belong anywhere near the artillery.
