Presidents from Texas in the last 100 years:

Lyndon Johnson

Accomplishments
Failure in the Vietnam War.
Medicare.
Medicaid.
Huge expansion in welfare state.

George W. Bush

Accomplishments
Near failure in the Iraq War.
Free prescription drugs for seniors, marking the then-largest increase in the scope and size of the federal government since--guess who--Lyndon Johnson.
Refused to fight Democrat smears, resulting in Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.
Refused to push for reform of Fannie and Freddie, resulting in the 2008 mortgage crisis.
$600 billion in TARP corporate welfare to rich Manhattan bankers.

Lesson: Don't vote for a Texan for President.

I wonder why and when Ronald Reagan switched from dem to Repub? I don't know how old you are but I am a native Texan too and an old one and I remember when my father and only one other guy called themselves Republicans in Texas. Everyone else were democrats but not the kind of brain dead, give me a handout, kind we have now. I am guessing Perry was one of those old fashioned democrats.

I could vote for Perry/Palin or Palin/Perry.

His record, while not perfect, is credible, and he seems to be free of RINO Disease.

HAHAHAHAHA, you clearly don't know Rick Perry. His talent is making people think he's a Conservative. He constantly does things that benefit his buddies at the detriment of Texans.

A confidential no-bid contract worth over a billion dollars being given out to a Spanish company is about as RINO as you can get, and it's no surprise that it benefited Perry's good buddy Rudy Guiliani.

If I had to pick one thing, it would be his attempt land grab to take land from farmers and ranchers and give it over to a Spanish company to build a huge corridor from Mexico to Oklahoma, but the DNA stuff with the newborns and it being sent off to the federal government to be put in a database really boils my hide because that affected my grandchildren. Perry could have put an end to it, but he let it go to court.

I’m from Florida and I would not vote for him. He’s way too slippery. He has been spending time and effort trying to cozy up to the TEA parties. I get the feeling he and Romney have more similarities than just good hair.

Did Perry “mandate” ovarian cancer shots, or did he bring it up for discussion and when it was shouted down he took it off the table?

Nobody knows Daniels or Perry, so no, neither will win in 2012. Neither is the “top Republican” of the moment, and neither can make a plausible case that they’re the “top Republican” and won’t be able to in 2012. If any of those guys does want to be President, they’ll have to do something sometime to make people think they’re the top Republican, and running now should help them.

Interesting that most positive comments on this thread come from FReepers outside of Texas. We on the inside know Perry, and I beg you to listen to us.

Rick Perry is for sale to the highest bidder. The line that he “was tea party before the tea party was cool” makes me want to barf. Simply not true.

He is a looks-good, talks-good opportunist.

Read bgill’s post #46 and af_vet_rr’s post #94. They said it all.

Again, Texas has been voted #1 business climate for the last seven years. By MANY publications.

Texas has been getting all of Kalifornya’s yobs.

Perry must be doing something right.
We need a good business guy right now.

Perry has proved it.
At a large state level. For many years.
I really don't care if he has a couple of warts.
He obviously isn't too Left if he he can put Texas on top for so many years.
We need someone to get this country out of a depression. Perry has a good government/business record.

I’m a 5th generation Texan and love this state but it’s time for another state to cough up cannon fodder for the DNC/ MSMedia gristmill. Conservative fodder would be good.

And his hair was perfect...

Wow.

Post 105 ,107 and 108.

Since you REALLY want your opinions known on how great Garasil is and how the State knows best, I guess you don’t mind me sharing your knowledge with others.
