Remember what Alan Simpson said after Obamas disastrous, demagogic, compromise-destroying attack on Paul Ryan a few weeks ago? He knew hed just seen any chance of a deal between the Republican and Democratic leaderships go up in smoke. Quote:
Just pray for the Gang of Six, he said. You guys your age, keep praying.
What happens if the Gang of Six fails? Mr. Simpson was asked.
Guys like you will be picking grit with the chickens when you are 65, he replied.
Start boning up on grit-picking, my friends:

We cant bridge the gulf of where we need to go on mandatory spending, Corburn said Tuesday afternoon. I dont see that theres going to be any fruition in continuing them at this time.
Were at an impasse, Coburn said. Theres no reason to sit and talk about the same things over and over and not get any movement.

It was doomed from the start with Turbin-Durbin one of the 6.
From the article: “I guess its going to take a fiscal collapse after all.”
Yup. You’re dealing with spending junkies here. And there is no way a junkie voluntarily gives up their fix. It will take an outside force like the bond markets to do that.
Default is just repudiation without the fanfare.
Both Chambliss and Crapo need to be primaried.
I guess we’re down to a “gang of five”.
It’s not my link...I borrowed it from Hot Air....
Works for me.
Sounds like good news to me.
Evidently the deal breaker was Coburns insistence that Social Security reform should be part of the package. But I also haven’t liked what I’ve heard about insistence on raising taxes.
And I don’t think any of them are really looking at some of the stuff that needs to be done—like eliminating the Department of Education, lock stock and barrel. And the EPA. And that’s just for starters.
What was a good conservative like Tom Coburn doing with Dick Durbin anyway? Good Lord.
Trusting members of the Hussein Cult was a waste of time. They *ARE NOT TRUSTWORTHY*.
Look, evidence today of the difference between Republican leadership and Democrat....even the more liberal Republicans. I heard a bit of an interview of Chris Christie on Hannity...I don’t listen to SH on a regular basis, but happened to be in the car. Chris Christie today spoke about the primary endorsement possibilities, but he mentioned the current occupant of the Oval Office by his title and last name. (I try not to do so, because I think it dignifies the person while denigrating the position.)
You RARELY heard that from Demon-rats during the last administration...morons like Dingy Hairy Reed called Bush 43 a “loser”, etc. The men and women who speak out for the Republicans do NOT call Hussein names like that—and I s’pose that must appeal to some folks.
No problem for me, either. Possibly it’s a software hitch. I removed that part of ZoneAlarm when it started warning me about all sorts of web sites being possibly dangerous. The last straw was when it tried to stop me from going to the home page at Microsoft!
Washington DC doesn’t need any more ‘gangs’ or for that matter ‘czars’. What we do need are serious, America loving adults and they seem to be in very short supply.
well....since they’re at an impasse they can go ahead with the birther issue.
You can bet that the idiot taxme shameless will get primaried.I will bet he wont seek re-election when the time comes.
Nothing less than a financial collapse will fix this mess. The Dems will never give up spending and raising taxes. We’ve run out of other peoples money.
Have to get Rock Bottom first.
What was a good conservative like Tom Coburn doing with Dick Durbin anyway? Good Lord. “ ============
I would like to love Tom, but Tom was duped by Barack back when BO was senator. He thought they were “friends”. Obama threw Tom a bone on medical fraud savings, remember, and then promptly launched the PelosiObamaCare explosion on him.
To answer your question, it could be Tom was in “dupe me” mode to ever join with the gang of communists to pound sand. Er...I mean hammer out a deal. OR...it could be that by leaving the tight little communist leaning group means he is no longer dupable. :)
What candidate is even talking about eliminating agencies? Oh it is the Kooks. Paul and Johnson.
“Both Chambliss and Crapo need to be primaried.”
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!
Ditto, Amen, Amen, Amen!!!
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”
The Democrats have created this hellish nightmare and it is up to fiscally responsible Conservatives to remember the REPUBLIC screw the DEMOCRACY and shut down the corrupt power grabbing Democrats once and for all...
Best post of the thread, AMEN!!!!!
If the U.S. Constitution was designed to prevent the government from having too much power, how did we end up with a government that controls just about everything in our lives?
Because of three groups of people and five tendencies all too familiar to the founding fathers:The three groups:The founding fathers warned that lack of vigilance would enable the group 1 and group 2 parts of society to enslave and impoverish the group 3 people who actually produce everything. The answer is to take the government back from the abusers in group 2 and use it to cut them and those in group 1 off at the ankles.1. Those who want to live off the labor of others. The five tendencies:
2. Those who want to control the lives of others.
3. Those who are productive and want to be left the hell alone.1. People in group 2 promise people in group 1 a cut of the loot if they enable them to spoliate people in group 3.
2. People in group 2 can rely upon people in group 1 to respond to envy and people in group 3 to be manipulated by pitching something as a public good or by characterizing their reluctance to fund the scheme as miserliness against the "needy" in group 1.
3. People in group 3 are so busy trying to be productive and take care of their own lives and dependents that they don't pay enough attention to the collusion between the moochers in 1 and despoilers in 2.
4. Small-time number 2 people, known as criminals, rely on robbery or fraud to separate people in group 3 from their products of labor and don't really give a rat's ass about people in 1.
5. Big-time number 2 people, known as statist politicians, rely on the force of law to extort from people in group 3 the products of their labor, while paying off people in group 1 for their support in attaining public office and staying there. They also don't give a rat's ass about people in group 1 except to have as many as necessary to keep themselves in office but not too many lest they not have enough people in group 3 to keep the whole thing running.
Excellent!
The three groups:
1. Those who want to live off the labor of others.
2. Those who want to control the lives of others.
3. Those who are productive and want to be left the hell alone
RIGHT ON
Can’t figure out that “cuts” won’t get the job done. Its time to amputate...a few Federal Agencies ...just for starters.
That’s an excellent summation of our situation. Thanks.
Budget bump for later........
Thanks, guys. The situation really is simple. It’s just those with their fingers holding the strings are motivated to keep talking up complexity. The founding fathers had a good solution: you just cut the frigging Gordian knot.
Well don’t blame Saxby Chambliss. He never saw a Democrat sponsored bill he didn’t like.
Something tells me you haven't the first clue what a conservative is!
Tom is some kind of peacenik who wants to cross the aisle and sing kumbyah or whatever. He can’t recognize the enemy... obastard duped him, Tom thinks he is his friend. I used to think Tom was a smart Okie but not so much anymore. He has stayed too long.
If you think that makes him less of a conservative, then we don’t stand a snow-ball’s chance in Hell in 12!
As for the 20 years and “term limits.” Coburn hasn’t reneged once on his term limit promises.
He’s in DC because we voted overwhelmingly to send him there, both, as congressman and senator.
If you know of someone more conservative... post the name.
While you’re at it name your senators, I’m curious.
Tom also stood up for his friend Nancy Pelosi, saying "she's a nice lady."
They think this is only a football game and the Democrats are their best buddies just on a different team while the Democrats are playing to win and for keeps.
Yep, there are whole departments of the federal government that could go away tomorrow and citizens would notice no differences in their lives but more freedom and prosperity.
The answer is for the group 3 people to shrug.
Coburn said that anyone involved with an abortion should go to prison; hardly a moderate.
BTTT
A less than fiscally conservative social con.
The good ol' days when men were men.
Please GOP, grow some brains, play hardball, and learn how to express conservative principles in an articulate manner. Stop with the Kumbaya already, it's an embarrassment.
Say, this is pretty good... did you write this?
The depraved selfishness of of politicians on full display.
What they should have been discussing together is how to educate and truly inform the citizens how dire our circumstances are- and then begin the task of actually cutting spending, drastically.
GREAT song...and songwriter - we just need to eliminate the “lawyers” part.
