French politician on suicide watch in New York

The maid came from one of the world's poorest countries and worked long hours trying to support the teen daughter she raised alone. The penthouse suite at the Sofitel Hotel was just another room; she had no idea the man she says tried to rape her was a famous French politician.

The man, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, remained jailed under a suicide watch Wednesday as a lawyer for the woman sought to rebut whispered allegations that her charges were a conspiracy and a setup.

Calls intensified for the 62-year-old Strauss-Kahn to step down as head of the powerful International Monetary Fund, with U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner saying Strauss-Kahn "is obviously not in a position to run" the agency.

People like Dominique Strauss-Kahn think of themselves as “Ruling Elites” and we are their slaves and must obey. They can stick that idea were the sun don’t shine.

Maybe...but this stinks to high h-e- double toothpicks. Looks like a setup job...one person’s word against another’s. Why do that to a maid when he could have easily hired outside help?...and look at the source!

Sounds like there’s physical evidence or his lawyer wouldn’t be hinting of consentual relations already. Sounds like a pig who was protected and emboldened by his status.

Of course he can run the IMF from jail... criminal gangs do it all the time with smuggled cellphones. He needs a new cellphone, doesn't he?

As for the defense... a friend of mine who practiced law in New Jersey told me that state would not stand for one-tenth the stunts New York lawyers pull.

Report I read said that the victim did not know he was a “Master of the Universe.” Kudos to her for coming forward and to the NYPD for the collar.

He’s on suicide watch off a mental evaluation. Why would an innocent man indicate such tendency? An innocent man would be focused on proving his innocence.

Sigh...read the details...there’s plenty of details that indicate that this was an actual rape or nasty, attempted rape. Otherwise, you sound like the French readers of The Guardian who are appalled at our Anglo-Saxon hang-ups on sex.

Sounds like there’s physical evidence or his lawyer wouldn’t be hinting of consensual relations already.

He may claim "consent" or that he was set up...but the facts beg to differ.

There IS physical evidence---DNA under her fingernails when she scratched him, blood on the bed, a paper trail indicating he had flim-flammed the hotel into thinking he had left.

Luxe hotels handle $3000 a night guests with kid gloves. There's a protocol----the help does not freely enter rooms at will. Apparently maids are not allowed to enter rooms until they are specifically told the guest has departed.

The hotel first sends in a bellman to cart off dishes, empty bottles, and the like BEFORE the maids go in to clean.

The victim had been told by the bellman that the guest had left....and got the OK to enter the room. But when she walked in, DSK was apparently hiding in the bathroom and ran out to attack her when he heard her come in.

From what we now know, it looks like HE set her up for rape.

They hustled him off to Rikers despite a high paid lawyer's plea........probably b/c he's done this before and had been warned.

‘Suicide Watch’ is just more evidence of guilt.

FNC reported the housekeeper lives in a building leased almost exclusively by people with HIV/AIDS.

I agree. This does seem extremely convenient, and the stakes are certainly high enough (protection of dollar reserve status!) for the Fed to go to any lengths to set up the head of the IMF.

But I console myself that Clinton and Gore are certainly rapists (or at any rate: creepy Chakra releasers) - rape is documented behavior for alpha left-wing politicians. DSK certainly fits the same profile.
