TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A western Indiana school district wants to give its bus drivers the authority to search students for weapons or drugs.
The Tribune-Star reported that a Vigo County School Corp. proposal would allow the drivers to search a student and the student's belongings if there is an immediate threat of harm or danger to those on the bus.

Or, they could pull to the side of the road, dial 911 and have a trained and armed officer there in a couple of minutes while all the other kids get to practice a fire drill if it's that dangerous a situation.
I'm friends with two different bus drivers, neither one is capable of handling most middle-school boys if they are horsing around, much less be asked to search an angry one who might be armed. We've managed to survive this long without giving the right to some flunky bus driver to feel up our kids, this is just another slow erosion of our rights for "the common good".
The ISC decision to allow illegal searches without resisting has started a trickle down effect already it seems.
The school bus drivers where I live need to be searched themselves. They are dangerous characters for the most part.
Sounds like a job for the TSA.
I believe it might be time for you guys to start shopping for a 49 star flag (or less, if need be.)
What the hell is happening in Indiana?
Touch my kid and you die.
Install backscatter x-rays and gropers at each bus stop, and then deploy hundreds of thousands of armed bus marshals.
I know, its Indiana for cripes sake! Aside from the far northwest corner near Chicago and downtown Indy this is a damn fine state to live in.
Or was, I should say.
It’s pretty ironic to hear govt-school enablers whine about the slow erosion of our rights.
No liquids over 3 ounces allowed; nor will Chapstick be allowed on a bus.
Indiana, like my home state of Iowa is primarily populated by “go-along-to-get-along” types who when told to jump will ALWAYS ask “how-high”. Midwesterners are mostly pretty spineless.
Indiana:
...anytime no-warrant searches of your house
...anytime no-warrant searches by “bus drivers” of your children on school buses
...and Mitch Daniels wants to be POTUS????
Nah.....I’d even take Newt over THAT CRAP, and I can’t stand Newt.
I say this as a teacher. We need to give up public education and adopt private education.
Learning civics is the rationale for public education. Do you honestly believe that most kids are learning how to exist in a free society?
i am not so much against prayer in public schools as I am just plain against public schools.
Anyone reconsidering home school...hmmm.
Lat night at graduation, my dad counted 121 teachers on the back of the program alone. Times this by 75K and what does that get you?
Hmmm.....I find it interesting that Mitch would be blamed for something a school district would suggest. Tell us old wise one...help us connect the dots. Exactly how is this “Mitch’s” fault?
The same can be said about the recent IN SC decision. Take time to read how Justice’s are selected in IN.
If I remember right, In the TV-movie AMERIKA the bus took the concentration camp workers to a gulag in Indiana.
Coincidence or conspiracy?
His TOTAL silence and inaction while supposedly looking out for the freedoms and welfare of the people of Indiana fron unconstitutional acts such as these.
If he's gonna "fight" like that for me as POTUS. YOU can keep him.
Oh....you mean like his silence on defunding Planned Parenthood. The big problem with many here on FR is they jump to conclusions. I remember folks here ranting and raving about Mitch talking about a “truce on social issues”, working on fiscal issues first and how he didn’t care about the abortion issue. Well, when all was said and done and without fanfare and a global announcement he got defunding thru the State House and Senate and signed the bill. Excellent strategy! The pro abortion groups didn’t have a chance to protest or boycott until after the fact.
BTW...check his record on the public unions.
