Police: Substitute Teacher Urinated In Class

RIVERDALE, Ga. -- A substitute teacher at Riverdale Elementary spent the night at the Clayton County Jail after being arrested Wednesday for allegedly exposing himself and urinating into a trash can in front of a fourth grade class.

Coleman Eaton, 60, faces two counts of aggravated child molestation.

Riverdale police said they received a call Wednesday morning. Investigators said Eaton was in the class with about 30 students. Students told police that Eaton told the class to turn around and not look, but a couple of students said they did.

Jason Cambers' son is in third grade. He said the allegations were almost unbelievable.

Erica Reese has a child attending the school. Her daughter is in the second grade.

"My child's safety, once my child leaves here, she's in their care," said Reese.

Both Reese and Chambers said they did not receive a notice from the school.

It is very possible that the school has a policy on never leaving the classroom unsupervised for any reason. Since the guy made an effort to conceal his action, I really don't think they can make an exposure charge stick.

There are some places (even in elementary schools) where the kids will tear the place apart even in the three minutes or so that it takes to dash down the hall for a quick leak.

Personally, I think the best way to handle this is to thank the guy for his service, maybe even give him an appropriate retirement gift and find another substitute teacher in the future.

No jail. He really had to pee and told them not to look.

But fire him and fire the person who hired him.

How ‘bout “Excuse me, kids, but I need to go down the hall. I’ll be right back.”

Compromise: Take it out, and run down the hallway urinating with the thing flopping all around like a garden hose with the water on full blast.

He has a bladder the size of a postage stamp. Is that a crime?

Depends...

Clayton County, Atlanta’s cesspool. When Atlanta flushed the john for the Olympics, all the waste surfaced in Clayton County.

Betcha he has an enlarged prostate. Americans with Disabilities Act could short-circuit the prosecution.

How ‘bout “Excuse me, kids, but I need to go down the hall. I’ll be right back.”

And in Clayton County, I can assure their response would NOT be, "Yes, sir, we will sit quietly studying our lessons until you return."

Most likely there would be several felonies committed, and at least one sex act performed in the room before he returned.

Someone in the comments section of the article said he was once an attorney in Clayton County.

Well, he’s no longer a substitute teacher, at least not in that school district.

sometimes kids learn what not to do as well as what to do. I would take the class down to the jail and let them see this creep behind bars as an object lesson.

Excellent way of looking at this, turn a negative into a positive.

I like the way you think.

Okay ... that's a bit crazy. But he's elderly, has a weak bladder, and told the kids not to look. The police are charging him with two counts of aggravated child molestation. Huh?!? "Molestation"? "Aggravated"? That's going to stick with him for all his retirement years. That's pretty insane. This might just be a situation where the police are more out of line than the citizen.

Probably gets plea bargained down to indecent exposure and let off with time served and a fine.

Then again perhaps he has something in his past that makes this a recurring “problem” for him. Maybe his record warrants such a harsh charge, like a warning from a judge not to expose himself to kids again or he gets slapped with a felony next time.

And if he does have a history, I support that the penalties increase too. Absolutely. My assumption was that a substitute teacher with such a history would no longer be welcome in the classroom ... but ... that's just not a safe assumption any longer. Truly the nation is circling the moral drain.

I’ve lived in Clayton County and in Riverdale since 1980, in the same home. When others left we stayed for varied reasons and when property values went down, we had to stay until they got better.

We are near retirement so we don’t plan to move for a while. I take offense with the cesspool comment. There are very nice people in Riverdale. Where do you live that you know some much about Clayton County? It is true that it is not what it used to be but there are still a lot of nice people like us living here.
