THE Australian Federal Police could be required to investigate new climate change offences under Julia Gillard's carbon tax, sparking concerns over the agency's resourcing.
As Julia Gillard today declared her carbon tax would be shyster proof.
Climate Change Minister Greg Combet's office said enforcement arrangements under the proposed carbon tax were yet to be finalised.
But AFPA president Jim Torr said there was little doubt the AFP would be required to play a role in policing the scheme.
Tax evasion is one of the big things the AFP works on, he told The Australian Online.
This will be another area of responsibility of the AFP.
The potential for fraud is enormous and the scale of the fraud phenomenal.
The Prime Minister said Australia would not repeat the mistakes that had exposed European carbon registries to multi-million fraud.
We will design this scheme so that it is not able to be used by shysters to make a dollar.

The Aussies need to throw the bums out.
She’s teetering as it is. Labor has a razor thin majority in the House of Representatives.
That just means the only shyster who will be able to capitalize on it will be the gov't.
