Well I can’t give an opinion on what console.

Because when the ‘stars’ came out against our country, our troops, and then, President, I stopped watching movies, supporting the ‘stars’ and making them rich/er....

Coincidentally, it was just as the ‘age of Obama’ started.

I bit the bullet and bought a computer for both of our TV’s. Costs more but more functionality.

I bought the BestBuy brand Insignia on sale for about $100...it was already set up to run on the internet, took only a few minutes. We have Netflix, youTube....all the extras. I love it. Well worth it. The Blu-Ray works very nice in combination with my HDTV. It’s like you are really there. And I bought the cheapest one.

Doesn’t it have to do with the TV you have? I’m happy with my Samsung Blue Ray. Just go to Best Buy and get the full and latest dope on this.

That’s if you turn off the player, I think. You can certainly pause movie for as long as you want.

I tried this. I left my player on overnight on pause so that I could resume the next day. The player (almost all are like this) turns itself off after a certain time period of no activity. This is to preserve the drive which keeps spinning while in pause. At any rate, I had to start from the very beginning the next day.

Head to CNet, that’s where I do all my electronics research. I decided on a Samsung BD-C6500 recently by going through their stuff, the funny part is I did the research the hard way (just started with their lists) then when I went back I found the “front door” to their Blu-Ray recommendations and that was the one they recommended highest for the level I was looking for.

And, of course, the most important part is never, ever, under any circumstances, should you consider, for even a moment, buying cables from Best Buy, or Monster cables from anybody not Best Buy. I got the HDMI cables I needed from my local computer place, bought 3 (I needed to add a hub for my setup) there for less than 1 costs at Best Buy. I pointed that out to the clerk and the next day their lightup sign was advertising their cables, that made me happy.

Pick up a $50 used computer on craigslist and use that. VGA output is fine because streaming videos are not high definition. If you use a computer you can also find lots of free movies and tv online. Freepmail me if you want some links.

The problem with the Rokus is they’re limited. For $50 more you can get a BluRay that will do everything the Roku does and play BluRay and DVD.

As has been already mentioned, Sony PS3.

Don't get hung up over the fact that these are gaming systems. I own two of them and I don't play games on them at all. They're just outstanding media systems all around. Easy to hook up, use and update. The hard drives are an added bonus.

True, but personally I am not interested in owning or renting DVD’s. I have over 200 movies waiting to be watched in my Netflix instant queue and am adding more all the time.

Ditto the ROKU where you will get Netflix and other sources for movies. I also got an Apple TV and it is interesting but still underdeveloped. Also get Amazon Prime.

I am done with DVDs but I may be over downloading movies too since I discovered Angry Birds on Google Chrome. I piped it to my big screen via my laptop HDMI connection and used my wireless mouse to run it. Also played some old school Atari lunar lander.

I would imagine all the new televisions work almost flawlessly with Netflix.

Having said that, it also works perfectly with our 10 year old Toshiba. We also have a 1 year old Samsung flatscreen that works perfectly as well.

I already own a bunch, got almost 500 physical in my Netflix queue (which is the max else I’d have more) plus whatever fell to instant. Roku’s are nice if you’re going to be net only, but if you have any physical media they’re outshined by net enabled bluray.

LOL. Oops, I scared my dog.

But after I explained it to him, he said, “ROR.” (That’s LOL in Dogspeak.)

Unless you specifically want to be able to play Blu-Ray discs, you might check on flat-screen TV’s with built-in WiFi. My Panasonic plasma has built-in Wi-Fi AND built-in Netflix, which it accesses through my internet connection.

“I have Netflix with my Wii system and my iPhone and iPad,works great”

So do I, but Wii won’t play DVD and is only 720P. I use it to send Netflix to my DVD recorder.
