Fox News Executives Dispute Quote About Palin
new York Times ^ | May 23, 2011 | Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 05/23/2011 10:50:02 AM PDT by Al B.

[...]

In a statement to The New York Times, the Fox News Channel executive vice president of programming, Bill Shine, said:

“I know for a fact that Roger Ailes admires and respects Sarah Palin and thinks she is smart. He also believes many members of the left-wing media are extremely terrified and threatened by her. Despite a massive effort to destroy Sarah Palin, she is still on her feet and making a difference in the political world. As for the ‘Republican close to Ailes’ for which the incorrect Palin quote is attributed, when Roger figures out who that is, I guarantee you he or she will no longer be ‘close to Ailes.’ ”

I’m betting no one said anything at all. It’s just made up. Just like the lies in Game Change that came from “inside” sources. All lies.

You're probably right. I agree with you about Game Change. How that screed made best seller status is a travesty. Worst sourced book - ever! Should be filed under Fiction.

Interesting. I’m glad that Ailes and his staff responded so quickly.

That a “Republican close to Ailes” said Ailes “thinks she’s an idiot.”

Despite a massive effort to destroy Sarah Palin, she is still on her feet and making a difference in the political world.

Yep. They admit it has been a "massive effort" and that it has failed to stop her.

That sort of resillience (backbone) is something sorely lacking in much of the GOP, and would be welcome in the White House.

Imagine her addressing a Republican Congress, holding their feet to the fire!

People use the term idiot to mean a lot of things.

Yes, there are specific definitions to it. But there are a bunch of colloquial uses as well.

I call my dog an idiot all of the time when he begs from me. I am not making a comment about his degree of IQ. It is his “thinking” that if he begs, he might just get some steak. He is an “idiot” because that will never happen off my plate.

Ailes probably used the term. But he did not mean stupid in the literal sense, but that she was either difficult, or missing an opportunity, or making mistakes, or any one of a hundred different contexts.

Jeeze...I am glad no one records every word I say.
