Friends of alleged hotel sex fiend Dominique Strauss-Kahn secretly contacted the accusing maid's impoverished family, offering them money to make the case go away since they can't reach her in protective custody, The Post has learned.
The woman, who says she was sexually assaulted by the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund, has an extended family in the former French colony of Guinea in West Africa, well out of reach of the Manhattan DA's Office.

You are correct..that could occur..but the jury would then never believe him.
Why should she allow herself to be bribed? Can she not sue him civilly for a lot more?
To put it crudely, one in the hand is worth two in the bush. Also, it may be worth quite a bit to him to avoid the civil trial and to prepay rather than fight it through. He'll avoid two high-priced lawyer sequences.
possibly..but “reasonable doubt” theory is a decent defense for him.
They'll go to eight figures if they have to.
If the bribing of the victim doesn't work, watch for the socialist scumbag to seek a plea deal in which it is agreed between the governments that he will serve his incarceration in France.
If he can have his incarceration handled by the French government it will be a much different incarceration than for the average rapist.

Jury trials occur in the real world...if DSK argues that it was consensual, the proverbial “he said, she said,”..that’s an affirmative defense, and I can’t recall any case where the defendant in that scenario did NOT take the stand..
I understand what you are saying, but he is not the one to decide if there is a civil suit or not.
I guess it’s the price.
