The full speech to a Joint Meeting of the United States Congress [Benjamin Netanyahu]
Facebook ^ | May 24, 2011 | Benjamin Netanyahu

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:22:26 PM PDT by La Enchiladita

I am deeply honored by your warm welcome. And I am deeply honored that you have given me the opportunity to address Congress a second time. Mr. Vice President, do you remember the time we were the new kids in town? And I do see a lot of old friends here. And I do see a lot of new friends of Israel here. Democrats and Republicans alike.

Israel has no better friend than America. And America has no better friend than Israel. We stand together to defend democracy. We stand together to advance peace. We stand together to fight terrorism. Congratulations America, Congratulations, Mr. President. You got bin Laden. Good riddance.

In an unstable Middle East, Israel is the one anchor of stability. In a region of shifting alliances, Israel is America’s unwavering ally. Israel has always been pro-American. Israel will always be pro-American.

My friends, you don’t need to do nation building in Israel. We’re already built. You don’t need to export democracy to Israel. We’ve already got it. You don’t need to send American troops to defend Israel. We defend ourselves. You’ve been very generous in giving us tools to do the job of defending Israel on our own. Thank you all, and thank you President Obama, for your steadfast commitment to Israel’s security. I know economic times are tough. I deeply appreciate this.

Yet as we share their hopes, but we also must also remember that those hopes could be snuffed out as they were in Tehran in 1979. You remember what happened then. The brief democratic spring in Iran was cut short by ...

As for Israel, if history has taught the Jewish people anything, it is that we must take calls for our destruction seriously. We are a nation that rose from the ashes of the Holocaust. When we say never again, we mean never again. Israel always reserves the right to defend itself.

....You see, our conflict has never been about the establishment of a Palestinian state. It has always been about the existence of the Jewish state. This is what this conflict is about. In 1947, the United Nations voted to partition the land into a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Jews said yes. The Palestinians said no. In recent years, the Palestinians twice refused generous offers by Israeli Prime Ministers, to establish a Palestinian state on virtually all the territory won by Israel in the Six Day War.

...Israel will not return to the indefensible lines of 1967.

Chinese Firm Aiding Iran’s Chemical Weapons Program

A newly disclosed cable sent by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reveals that a Chinese company is transferring equipment and technology to a secret plant in Iran that is part of the Islamic Republic’s chemical weapons program.

The cable, dated July 24, 2009, is a WikiLeaks document obtained by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. It shows that Clinton instructed the U.S. Embassy in Beijing to take action against the Chinese firm, Zibo Chemet.

China is party to an agreement forbidding sales of vital equipment for chemical weapons programs.

The cable reads in part: “We have new information indicating that Zibo Chemet transferred technology for the production of glass-lined reactor equipment to Iranian customers, significantly enhancing Iran’s ability to produce indigenously chemical equipment suitable for a chemical warfare program.”

Glass-lined reactor vessels are resistant to the chemicals they contain. The glass lining prevents raw materials used to produce weapons such as nerve gas from eating away at the container’s inner surface and evaporating, Haaretz explained.

Clinton’s cable asked the embassy to pass information about the transfer to the Chinese government and demand that it take action to halt the sales.

It also disclosed that the United States blacklisted Zibo Chemet in April 2007 over suspicions that it supplied similar equipment to North Korea and Syria as well as Iran.
“Clinton’s cable shows that as the international community anxiously follows the progress of Iran’s nuclear program,” Haaretz observes, “Iran continues to develop conventional and unconventional weapons, including chemical ones.”

In our post-speech analysis, we did seem to miss the humor.

Very Reagan-esque. The bit about “an America outside the beltway” was GREAT (and he may be the only foreign Head of State to know that!)

Maybe the GOP can nominate Netanyahu in 2012. Benjamin is as eligible as the druggie in our White House and a whole lot more loyal to America and to freedom.

I wonder if Jewish liberals even notice an event like this speech. I believe they may simply screen it out, neurologically, and walk away unaware it even happened.

When the ragheads come to cut their throats and rape their women and convert their children they will protest "Why didn't anyone warn us about this?"

Thanks for the heads up. I can't wait to see him on Hannity tonight. I only heard clips of the speech...but it was thrilling and inspiring. I loved how he talked about the hecklers. It does make one sad that we have no such person to lead us.

Why does Iran need missile platforms in Venezuela? What’s Obiwan doing about that?

I was watching on France 24 network and in prior commentary to the speech, it was mentioned that Netanyahu was educated in the U.S. and lived near Philadelphia. How coincident is that? He lived in the birthplace of American freedom and attended school there....

He returned to the U.S. for further education at MIT AND Harvard after time spent in Israel as a captain in the IDF.

He is ours (almost) as much as Israel’s!!

I only saw a bit of the live speech, but he didn't stick strictly to this text. He made reference off the cuff to George Eliot's having been a woman.
Of the 300 million Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, only Israel's Arab citizens enjoy real democratic rights. I want you to stop for a second and think about that. Of those 300 million Arabs, less than one-half of one-percent are truly free, and they're all citizens of Israel.

This startling fact reveals a basic truth: Israel is not what is wrong about the Middle East. Israel is what is right about the Middle East.
