I agree 100% with you; however, there is a problem - all the repubs in the House have endorsed the Ryan plan and they can't easily reverse their stand. Obama will be tough to beat without the seniors voting republican.

Yeah, the GOP should abandon a small government agenda and spend slightly less than the Democrats. RINO bullshit.

The good news is this happened early enough to serve as a warning and we can adapt. Obama and the dems got a similar warning in Jan 2010 with MA. They chose to ignore it. We all know what happened. Hopefully we won’t ignore this.

You make some good points here and I can't argue with you that Medicare reform looks like a giant loser right now, but our team is on record supporting it. All but 4 Republicans in the House voted for it, and I don't see how they run from that vote now.

Do you really think the Republican House members can escape their endorsement of Ryan's plan? I don't think so. It seems to me we may have to just stand our ground and fight over it. We are right, Medicare needs to be reformed. The public apparently isn't ready for it, but I don't think we can run and hide after overwhelmingly voting for the Medicare reform plan.

If we "lay off Medicare", whose taxes do we raise to cover its shortfalls?

I agree with you Dave W, we are going to drive the Medicare bus full speed ahead until it goes right over the cliff.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD think about it, can you see the bigger picture or what you want?

We say what we have to say and then pass what we want.

Newsflash not everyone wants what you want sod ask a old person if they want their medicare cut and you lose a vote, think about it will you .

Why on earth do you think medicare was set up in the first place?
You and I want something but if you say “hell we’re getting rid of this and that” you lose votes

I can’t believe you can’t understand this, surely.

This was not the result of the faux tea party candidate.

This is the fault of Corwin not understanding the Ryan plan, and now we will have to listen to this Mediscare crap for 18 months.

This is a political disaster. I’d rather have lost the judgeship in Wisconsin.

Totally expected, not a surprise. NY voters are incapable of understanding that this TEA party choice was anti-TEA party.

I lost hope with the 2010 House results immediately when it became clear Boehner would not fight. Plus Senate races from DE to NV just overruled the House results.

So...is this going to be a pattern for the Dems to use? I’m guessing that in close districts with stupid people, this methodology would work.

Seniors are poll fine on Medicare. Too many here are influenced by the MSM This is a case that somehow a tea party candidate decoy turned a district outcome. I don’t know how because there were a slew of these fake te party candidates all around the country in November, and I am not aware of any that changed the outome of a race. I think if nothing else this shows the Dems put more into the race than our side. Not surprising in New York.

Whine, whine, whine. Boehner pushed the Ryan plan through the House which included Medicare reform. That was politically incredibly bold and risky and may have cost us this seat. The Republicans control 1/2 of Congress. That's it. This House has passed plenty of good legislation, but there isn't much we can do without the Senate and White House.

Plus Senate races from DE to NV just overruled the House results.

The lesson in DE and NV is to nominate good candidates, not characters like Angle and O'Donnell who had little to no chance to win. When I say good, I mean someone who can actually win. It isn't enough to be right on the issues, you have to actually be able to persuade a majority of voters to cast ballots for you (something Angle and O'Donnell could not do).
