Raleigh, N.C. — The investigation into former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards' affair and campaign finances is coming to a conclusion.
Sources told WRAL News on Tuesday that a major development would occur in the next two weeks. It could be an indictment or perhaps a plea deal. Sources said it's unlikely that prosecutors would walk away from the case.
The investigation appears to have zeroed in on money from a 100-year-old campaign supporter and attempts to hide Edwards' affair with a campaign staffer.
Former Edwards aide Andrew Young wrote in his tell-all book, "The Politician," that heiress Rachel "Bunny" Mellon gave Edwards a total of $700,000 as a gift. The so-called "Bunny money" helped fund the cover-up of Edwards' affair with video producer Rielle Hunter, who was pregnant with the former U.S. senator's child.

The MSM are very much to blame for a lot that is wrong with elections and politics generally, BECAUSE they observe this kind of ‘situational rigor’ when analyzing candidates.

This is especially close to my heart. I lived in NC when he was elected to public office and I cannot tell you ONE THING that bastard did for his constituents. It was only to further himself and his pretty hair. I hope he ends up not only in prison but also having to have surgery to tighten his butthole. Seriously. He needs to have done to him what he did to the citizens of NC for all those years.

I have never seen the photo in #6. He seems to be saying “Come all..... and adore me.”
Why was he even elected to public office? The guys main occupation was stealing money from doctors and hospitals. This is a virtue when running for office? “Vote for me! I helped run your health care costs through the roof all so I can be living large!”

Unless I’m missing something, she would have had to report a gift this large to the IRS and pay taxes on it. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=108139,00.html#1
I presume she did not, in which case she is liable for tax fraud or tax evasion. This gives prosecutors a nice little lever by which to compel her testimony against Edwards. Since Fred Baron is dead, she’s better positioned than almost anyone to say what Edwards knew, when he knew it and what kind of “understanding” was reached regarding the use of her funds.

Since some of these checks arrived hidden in boxes of chocolates, it sounds as if Bunny had no intention of paying gift taxes on these little showerings of affection for Senator Sleazeball.
