WASHINGTON -- A liberal legal scholar is withdrawing his nomination to an appeals court judgeship after Senate Republicans blocked a vote on his confirmation last week.
Goodwin Liu, 40, said in a letter to President Barack Obama Wednesday that he and family need "to make plans for the future" now that there is little prospect of a Senate vote on his nomination.

Maybe you could go make a living practicing law, Prof. Liu? In the sense of representing clients, understanding their businesses, realizing how the rules of evidence work in real cases, etc., etc.? It’s one of the reasons that even the far-left ABA purports to expect appellate-judge nominees to have at least 12 years experience either on the bench or practicing law. (Yet you, with only two years of very thin law practice and zero years on any bench, somehow got a “well qualified” rating from the ABA.)
Not coming close to the 60 votes required for cloture was a bad loss for Liu. (Couldn’t resist.)
Take a hike you brainwashed commie stooge. His talents would be greatly appreciated in North Korea.
I’m waiting for a recess appointment this weekend.
I doubt he has to make many plans, he fits right in at Bezerkley.
See what happens when you exert a little effort? Too bad they didn’t even try to shut out Kagan. They need to filibuster every court pick the commie prick comes up with.
But he was given a well-qualified rating by the ABA.
Did you bother to read Freeper Smith’s initial comment before you called him a commie stooge? Your comment seems rather bizarre.
I assumed the comment was directed at Comrade Liu.
I hope that you are correct and will assume that I misunderstood.
“liberal legal scholar” = oxymoron
If only he’d been this pragmatic with his rulings.
Liu can sod off back to his liberal enclave.
He isn’t fit to judge a dog show.
Good! Republicans managed a victory. DemocRATS had planned to put him on the Supreme Court eventually.
Excellent! This dude is bad news.
Piece of commie trash. Empty suit. See ya around.
(can’t tell if you’re being serious or not,so) Yeah, what you said about the well-qualified rating despite his lack of experience ... is the very next thing that I said ... ?
