Guys like this will kill you just for looking at them as long as they can sneak up on you and have a good weapon and a bunch of their homies for back up.

In other words, they’re frikkin’ cowards.

Note the teardrop tattoo.

Teardrop means you're an ex-con. But you knew that.

He did add or cover some of his neck tattoos, probably because they were identifiable. He has an excuse for it though — he says he was covering up a tattoo of his old girlfriend’s lips because his new girlfriend was mad.

I looked it up on urban dictionary. Seems we are all correct. The teardrop tattoo could mean a killing, prison time, murdering while incarcerated, losing someone you cared about, or even just a fad.

Okay you’re right then, whatever.

There’s a lot of ambiguity about it if you research a little. But in the old days like 25 yrs ago when I first started seeing them, that was my understanding of it.

Santa Cruz police Detective Joe Hernandez told the court that a teardrop tattoo generally signifies that the wearer of the tattoo has killed someone, and therefore, two teardrops signify two killings.

Gonzales contends that Detective Snow Robertson's testimony that the two teardrops meant he had killed two people was extremely damaging because it was the only physical evidence that he personally killed both victims.8 He asserts that even if his counsel chose not to dispute the meaning of the tattoos, they could have argued that the tattoos were irrelevant because the State failed to prove that he acquired them after the Aguirres were murdered.

On cross-examination, over defense objection, Ms. White testified that each teardrop of the tattoo represents a person killed by the tattoo wearer, representing a tear that a mother shed for the death of her child. Ms. White testified that she knew of no other meaning for the tattoo.

Appellant Keith Jackson argues that his conviction for manslaughter should be reversed based on what he contends was the trial court's error in denying his motion to conceal from jurors the teardrop-shaped tattoo beneath his left eye. For the reasons discussed below, we affirm the judgment of conviction.

On January 14, 2004, prior to jury selection, Jackson's counsel asked the court to permit the defense to apply cover-up makeup to Jackson's face to conceal his teardrop-shaped tattoo. Counsel explained to the court that “[i]n some circles, the presence of a teardrop tattoo means that the person wearing it has killed somebody. That is sort of gang understanding from the West Coast, and many people in the community are aware of that interpretation.” He argued that the tattoo “pretty much amounts to testimony or to Drew1 provided by my client that he has killed somebody, in the mind[s] of other people.” Counsel acknowledged that “the other reason people wear teardrop tattoos is to mourn the loss of a loved one,” but argued that “for those jurors who think that the presence of a teardrop tattoo is emblematic of having committed a homicide in the past, it's devastating.”

Pondexter's girlfriend testified that she had heard Henderson talk about being in a gang. When asked about the meaning of a teardrop tattoo under a person's eye, she testified that she had always known it to mean that the person had killed someone. She testified further that Henderson did not have a teardrop tattoo under his eye on the night of the murder.

Joe Scott, who had shared a cell with Henderson, testified that Henderson told him repeatedly that he had shot Lennox.

The jury convicted Henderson of capital murder.

At the punishment phase, Williams testified that Henderson robbed some Mexican males in Dallas at gunpoint. He testified further that a teardrop tattoo is a sign that you have killed someone; that Henderson did not have a teardrop tattoo before the murder; but that Henderson had a teardrop tattoo when he saw him in jail following the murder; and that Henderson said that he got the tattoo in the county jail in Dallas, after the murder.
