If I recall correctly, when Bush was in office didn’t Harry Reid raise objections against renewing the Patriot Act?

Conservatives are an embarrassment to the Constitution on too many issues.

That’s the reason liberalism is so prevalent these days.
I’m not going to say it’s the origin of liberalism, that started in Gen 3,
but the huge growth in liberalism today is due to the lack of consequences.

The issue at hand is the liberty to own arms without being documented and tracked (for the ultimate purpose of confiscation). Paul is offering an amendment to prevent a secret court from demanding all “yellow forms” - ALL of them - for an ostensible “find the terrorists” fishing expedition per other Patriot Act verbiage which would be a heinous violation of the 4th Amendment. As is now, the records are retained solely by dealers (unless dealership closes, then they’re transferred to BATFE) and may only be examined under specific warrant. Reid wants to retain that unconstitutional power, and/or wants to not have it addressed because that would put the Leftists in the uncomfortable position of taking a stand on 2nd and 4th Amendment rights.

Oh, sorry Sen. Reid... I didn’t realize this “Servant” ID was your personal account here on FR...

Best of all, there would be fewer elected officials ;-)

"The national security of the United States is at stake, and the junior senator from Kentucky is complaining that he has not been able to offer amendments," said Reid,. "When the clock strikes midnight tomorrow, we would be giving terrorists the opportunity to plot attacks against our country, undetected," Reid added.

We killed the Patriot Act (YouTube)
Do you remember when Harry Reid said that? The Democrats in Congress were crowing about how the Patriot act had been defeated. Come on, surely you remember.
Harry Reed (sic) seems to have selective memory to what he wants, or maybe it depends whose holding the power?
Nah, that would be playing politics.

Horse sh**! Information under the Patriot act has allowed the government to help make us all slaves. It is a bad act and needs to be dumped. We have agencies already in place that will do all we need to do in order to keep the country secure. Tell me, how does the Patriot act help us secure the southern border? It doesn't. Neither does Homeland Security. Both of these stupid freedom robbing laws were put into effect during a panic after 9/11. Many people warned against them and this little set too in the Senate with Reid trying to make sure our firearms rights are undermined highlights just one of the dangers of such an act. Janet Necrapitno's BS of making whites, veterans and Christians the terrorist suspects of choice highlights the dangers of Homeland Security.
Only a complete frickin' fool would want either one of these things in a free society.

"it could have dire consequences for out national security," warned Reid, D-Nevada. BULL HOCKEY, what about the border? That's where the real danger is.

I'll say it slower. This is a lame strawman argument. There are plenty of conservatives who support the Patriot Act with good reason. Just because Dingy Harry now wants to keep it, doesn't make it a bad thing.
What does Jim DeMint think? Is he on Rand's side?
To: G Larry
You know what would REALLY have a big affect on keeping "sudden Jihad syndrome" under control?
Stop the government agents from shooting at us when we exercise our RKBA. We'll do the rest.
No need for extra funding. No need to extra departments, strip searches, or idiotic legislation that oversteps Constitutional limits on government power...
You can thank me later.

Next time why not just name it the “Sunshine and Puppydogs for Motherhood and Apple Pie Act”?
I hate the name. I call it the “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel Act”.
While I support some of the provisions, my support for the act is neither total nor perpetual.

What I just don’t get, The Patriot Act is needed for our National Security, yet an open southern border doesn’t matter?
To: marktwain
Unless the amendments contain lots of pork for dem districts, then it's perfectly acceptable.
To: Servant of the Cross
There are plenty of conservatives who support the Patriot Act with good reason. Republicans? Maybe. Conservatives? Not so much...

So I should have the liberty of ignoring stop signs? Ben Franklin said lots of wise things but that wasn’t one of them. People give up “liberty” all the time for security. It’s called civilization.

Bingo.
It makes zero sense to have the Patriot Act for security when we are doing nothing about the violence on the southern border.
It's almost like it's a joke.
