New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) announced Thursday that he would pull out of a regional climate pact by the end of the year, delivering a political setback to the fledging effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions linked to global warming.
In a news conference, Christie said the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a 2005 accord in which 10 states agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions from power plants 10 percent by 2018, would not be able to meet its goals.
The program requires plants in the region that burn fossil fuels to buy pollution allowances for the carbon they emit, which they can trade among themselves. It took effect in 2008, making it the first cap on greenhouse gas emissions implemented in the United States.
But Republican gains in last falls elections on both the state and national levels have prompted a reexamination of such programs in the Northeast, as well as in the Midwest and West. Questions are being raised about the extent to which these regional initiatives can cut greenhouse gas emissions without mandatory federal limits. In addition to New Jersey, states in the RGGI are Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The rino is thinking about running.
Mister Rogers sez: "SCAM SCAM and MORE SCAM" .. can you say that word? Sure ya can, I knew ya could
Someone tell me how buying pollution credits will stop pollution. It only puts money in some crooks pocket.
I buy a pollution credit from someone who doesn’t pollute soI can go right on doing it.
Stupid. It’s a scam.
If you want to stop pollution take the money you would pay into this scam and clean up the plant doing the polluting.
THAT stops pollution or at least it slows it down. The trading scanm is just outright theft. Theft from the consumer who is doing the paying. It’s just another stupid tax.
Exactly. He’s looking for a MORE EFFECTIVE way to to stop global warming (i.e., a more effective way to cripple the economy).
When he joins the NRA or GOA, let me know. Until then, he doesn’t have my vote.
It was what Al Gore hoped would be the biggest scam in human history.
More to the point, though, is that in this case THERE IS NO POLLUTION to be "capped" OR "traded".
Suckerrr. In case you haven't heard Chris, global warming is the biggest scam in the history of the world. They rigged the graphs, put thermometers near heat vents and airport runways, and made up numbers and faked pictures. I know it's not politically correct but please stop perpetuating the myth.
NJ has a lot to thank him for.
Anyone who thinks this gun grabbing climate change rino is worthy of the highest office needs to listen to his interview with Hannity last week. He spells it all out. Maybe he can fight a good fight with teachers but he is no conservative.
He’s making the right move. Greenhouse Warming Theory is bunkum.
“NJ has a lot to thank him for.”
With any luck he will stay in NJ, they are fine with cap and trade as well as their gun grabbing legislation that he so proudly defends.
